Bedrooms

House hunting and I would really like 4 bedrooms but all of the houses we have seen have very small bedrooms. We looked at two 3 bdrm houses today and the rooms were large. At the moment it's just dh and I but we are ttc and love to entertain.

How many bdrms do you have in your current home or if you are house hunting what is your minimum bdrm criteria?

Re: Bedrooms

It was not important to me to have large bedrooms (except the master). If the closet was a decent size, I wouldn't need much in the way of dressers. If the closet was smaller, there would have to be enough room for a dresser, armoire, etc. We don't keep toys in DS's room as he has a play room. We wanted to use the bedroom for sleeping and not much else, so he only has a bookcase, stuffed animals and maybe one or two toys in there (set of legos and magnetix). If there is no room for a playroom, then I think you'd have to consider more room in the BR for toys. As for a guest room, it would have to fit a double or queen bed, maybe one dresser and one nightstand - don't really need much else in there.

We now have four bedrooms but use one as the playroom.

Re: Bedrooms

We have 4 bedrooms. That was a must for me. We were house hunting when I was pregnant with twins and although I think this is it for us I didn't want our house to dictate that for us. We have a large master bedroom, another large bedroom, a medium size room and a small room. The 4th small bedroom could be a bedroom if we needed but right now it is an office/play area for the kids.

eta: we have a finished basement with a full size playroom

Re: Bedrooms

if all goes well with the house we have an offer in on, we will have 4 bedrooms (and a 5th that doesnt have a closet but will be a guestroom or office). We wanted 4 but would have been fine with 3 IF their was a family room or 4th "room" that we could have used as one. We have 2 kids and are pretty much done, so as long as each kid had a bedroom and we had an extra room/space, we would be happy.

Re: Bedrooms

we have 4, i wanted 4.

we have one child currently and use bedroom #3 for a playroom, bedroom #4 as a guest room.

now, since we are all settled in... we are already thinking of knocking down the wall between our room and the guest room to make a huge master suite.

we have a big, fully finished basement so we could always set guests up down there and we do not plan on more than 2 kids.

looking back, we would have been OK with 3 as long as we had a fnished basement.

Re: Bedrooms

Our requirement was 3 and we have 3. When we were house hunting I thought all the bedrooms were really small too. Our bedrooms are pretty large which was important to us. We are currently expecting our first LO this summer and are converting the office into the nursery. The other bedroom is currently a guest room and will remain the guest room, just have the desk/computer in there now. If we have a second child the office stuff will go into the basement.

Re: Bedrooms

We wanted 3 or 4 because we have two older kids that were living home at the time and we have OOT family that visits often.
We found a house with 5 bedrooms 8 years ago. The master is large and the guest bedroom is large, the others are average. Now that our kids are even older and my son doesn't live with us anymore we have too many bedrooms LOL. Currently we have the 3 extra bedrooms set up as a guest room, a workout room and another guest room/ catch all room. We have a separate office so we don't need to use a bedroom for that.
Our next house will not have so many bedrooms.

Re: Bedrooms

We had 4 bedrooms, then we decided to combine 2 and make a bigger master and the 2nd a little bigger, so now we have 3.

We will be refinishing the basement soon, so we will just have a pull out couch down there for guests when our current guest bedroom is taken over by another baby

Re: Bedrooms

When we bought the house, it had 2 1/2 bedrooms. The 1/2 bedroom was really only good as a nursery. It wouldn't have been able to have a full-size bed in it. After the reno, according to the town, we have 7 bedrooms... One is a library, one is an office, one is a toyroom, and one is a spare room. The other 3 are actual bedrooms.

Re: Bedrooms

3- Large Master, 2 smaller bedrooms

No kids, yet (hopefully). We have a full basement with lots of extra space so if we do have kids, there will be lots of room. The house is only 11 years old so there is a lot of storage space/closets.

I wanted at least 3 BRs.

Re: Bedrooms

we have four and wanted 3-4. One of the bedrooms is tiny and we use it as our office. Many ranches with 3 bedrooms had one tiny bedroom so we liked having the extra bedroom.
