Anyone's Dr. not do internal exams?
So I just had one of my monthly appts (Im 32 wks) and the midwife told me they dont do internals. Only time they do them is if Im experiencing contractions. Does that seem right?

no I have never heard of this I started internals with my 1st pregnancy when my appt were 2 week apart. How do they tell you how much you have dilated? and what is going on with the baby?

I haven't had one yet, I'm almost 36 weeks. I didn't have one with my last pregnancy until I was just was my ue date. They really aren't necesary unless your contracting and you risk introducing bacteria to the area. They aren't fun either..

My doc leaves it up to me. She said they are basically unnecessary and sometimes give moms "false hopes" that they will go soon when you can walk around being 2-4cm dialated for weeks HTH! Many midwifes also avoid internals as well.

Re: Anyone's Dr. not do internal exams?
From what one of my old OBs told me there is no medical reason for an internal unless you're in labor or need to be induced. Like the PP said you can walk around dilated for weeks, it doesn't mean anything.

Re: Anyone's Dr. not do internal exams?
I'm with a midwife this time around. I HOPE they don't do internals LOL I have a tilted uterus and the internals were sooooo painful for me, even a pap smear and is really painful for me.
Does anyone know if the SB midwives do internals? I am 35 weeks and was just there on Tuesday and it hasn't been brought up once.

Re: Anyone's Dr. not do internal exams?
My doc did my Strep B test at 34 weeks and so he did an internal also at that time. But when I went back this week at 35 weeks he said he didn't have to do an internal because unless I'm having painful contractions, he has no reason to do one or check for progress since I most likely am not making any at this point.

My internals start at 36 weeks but im not seeing a midwife, maybe that's a factor?
