Re: Grieving Taxes..Where do I start
When I was in Nassau, I believe the company I was going to use was Fred Perry. I called them and was told if I grieve, and if I move, the process will turn over to the new owner but I think I might have had to pay the attorney myself had I gone that route (I dont recall it being that much). So I might not see the benefit but they would. Also looks great when selling to show "taxes being grieved". I cant seem to find the website (there was one at the time). It had FAQ. There is a deadline for the year, forget what month that is. Hopefully someone else on here can tell you more.
ETA - I just looked it up, seems the application must be in by March 1, 2012 (if what I am reading is correct).

Re: Grieving Taxes..Where do I start
you can do it yourself! What you are basically doing is challenging what they assessed your house at. I did it last year and just got a notification recently for my new assessment 2012-2013, i believe now you can apply for 2013-2014 up until march 1st... all you do is go to the AROW website for nassau county and you create an account. what you have to do basically is search for homes that sold in your area for less than they are saying your property is worth. then you send in those houses to compare on the application (it is all online) and submit it. you'll hear back next year what the assessment review commission decides.

If anyone wants it, here is the link to the Nassau County Assessment Review Commission's website... it provides info on dates/deadlines, a link to the AROW system, etc.
