If you recently remodeled your kitchen
How bad was it during the construction? We will have access to half of the kitchen (fridge and stove) while the other half is being expanded. When that is done we'll have to wait for our cabinets and counter tops to come in which we were told takes 4-6 weeks. I am dreading living out of boxes and it's beginning to stress me out. We will have another table set up in our DR to put our microwave, coffee maker and toaster oven on, but all our plates, pots, pans, cups, etc. will be in boxes.

Re: If you recently remodeled your kitchen
We had our kitchen done last year, and it took about a month from start to finish. It was annoying....but not terrible. We had a microwave and coffee maker set up in the living room since we had no access to the kitchen at all.

I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense, but why not wait til the cabinets and countertops are in to start the reno? When I put in my peninsula, I waited until everything was in to start taking down the wall. Yes, I had boxes of cabinets and countertops in my DR for a few weeks, but it was better than living without a kitchen while I was simply waiting for stuff to be delivered. That just seems like wasted time to me.

Re: If you recently remodeled your kitchen
It sucked for me. I love cooking and I'm really attached to my kitchen. We did a complete gut.. so when the floors were ripped down to the beams I couldn't go in the kitchen (or access my office, workout room or basement) for 2 days! I am happy to report that I survived. The most annoying part for me to be honest was the CLUTTER. For the longest time we had shit EVERYWHERE.. temporary shelving, plywood for counters.. it frustrated me and made me not want to cook AT ALL. But you carry on and in the end it's TOTALLY worth it.

We kept our old fridge and set it up. I had a large convection toaster oven that I could bake in. Plenty of paper goods etc. My kids actually thought it was great "camping" out . It's a big PITA but so worth it!

Re: If you recently remodeled your kitchen
going through it now. Its been one week.
We have a set up in the dining room with a microwave, electric skillet and coffee maker. I have temporary shelving with all my pantry items and dishes in the study (don't put stuff you'll be using in boxes!). The refrigerator is in my foyer. Trying to use paper as much as possible since I have to wash dishes in the bathroom sink (this is the hardest part!).
Ours is a total overhaul -we've ripped up tile flooring, taken down walls and moved the window & sliding door. Its just a complete mess right now, but we're surviving, so far...

if she's going with custom/semi-custom cabinets, she'll need to take measurements once the extension is finished before ordering the cabinetry.
Same goes for countertops. Our cabinets have been delivered and are just waiting for the demolition and construction to be completed, but we can't order the granite countertops until our cabinets are in place to template them.

Yes, this is the issue. The wall that is being extended has the cabinets that held all of our dishes, glasses, pots and pans. We're using paper plates and solo cups right now. I think we'll just eat at my MIL's and my parents a lot

Re: If you recently remodeled your kitchen
We tear down our whole kitchen on Friday- excited and terrified of being without it for 6 weeks at the same time!
Thanks for all the tips- I will just have a toaster oven, microwave and fridge. I am dreading washing sippy cups in the bathroom The paper goods are going to cost us a fortune!
