How long were you in negotiations for before agreeing on a price?

When purchasing, how long did it take to get to an agreed upon price (pre-inspection?) Just curious how long this usually takes - and how long it CAN take.

Thanks!

Re: How long were you in negotiations for before agreeing on a price?

It took us about 3 weeks, if not more. Seller was being stubborn and wouldn't come down to our price. We went up a little and still nothing. Then seller said he had another offer (i think this was a lie), would we come up. We said no, highest we will go is X. Seller was told we were willing to walk away. Seller came down on price, only 2K diff from our top offer so we said yes. We really wanted the houe. Playing the stupid price game for so long was annoying.

Made an offer Thursday evening. That same evening their realtor said they had another higher offer on the table and if we would match that the house would be ours. We refused and went up to the top $ amount we would pay for the house.

We got a call back Friday afternoon that they accepted.

Re: How long were you in negotiations for before agreeing on a price?

As an agent, I've had many sales that have been negotiated in one day (phone calls go back and forth quickly or in a couple of instances, the seller just accepted the buyer's initial offer). On the other end, I've had negotiations that have stretched out a couple of weeks!

On average, I'd say it usually takes a couple of days to go back and forth a couple of times (sometimes people want to sleep on it, discuss offers with their spouses after work, etc).
