6 hours in Bermuda....

...and what to do/see ?
Bermuda is the first port of call on our April cruise and I've never been there before.
I'd prefer not to go to the beach, because we have a whole day in Labadee later on in the week. I'm more of a sightseeing/eating type of gal than sitting on a beach.

TIA !

Re: 6 hours in Bermuda....

If you are at kings wharf you can take the bus to hamilton. There is shopping on front street and some historical sites that are just in walking distance from front street. It's also easy to catch a bus or cab from there.

If you are taking a cruise and want to go to st. george, i would recommend taking an excursion of the the crystal caves and the aquarium. You could take a taxi there but is takes some time and the cabs are expensive.

bermuda is one of my favorite islands.

If you are docking in kings wharf, hop the ferry to Hamilton. The bus is a local route & can take up to an hour plus you get a lot of locals. We were just there in November & trust me, the bus ride was unpleasant. The ferry was beautiful & was about 10 min ride

Well I asume you mean aside from the ship land excursions.

They could easily take the ferry into Hamilton. Nice ride very easy to do (I figure they are coming into King's Warf?). That is a nice place to walk around and grab some food.

Otherwise maybe get a taxi for a sight seeing trip.

Re: 6 hours in Bermuda....

If you are at Kings Wharf I would take the Ferry. The bus will take way to long. There is NOTHING to do in St. George so I would skip it.(We went to St. George and except for one nice restaurant it was not worth the trip over. It took way to long and since all the ships now dock at Kings Wharf this part of the island is really run down.)
My advice based on what we did:
1. Shopping on Front Street in Hamilton and walk to the Fairmont Hamilton Princess for High Tea. It is outstanding. If you can time it right, they reenact a dunking of a woman at noon. It is done both in Hamilton and St. George.
2. Caves (take a tour from the cruise ship or a taxi there). The aquarium is small. If you have small kids it would be fine otherwise, I think you can skip the aquarium. You could also go to the Public Gardens which are very nice.
3. There is a small mall right in Kings Wharf. It has a nice but expensive glass shop and some good Rum Cakes.
4. I loved Horseshoe Bay and Baby Horseshoe Bay beach. It was fantastic. I would pay the guy the few dollars it cost for the ride back up the hill though.
5. The cruise ships offer an opportunity to swim with dolphins. That is right next to Kings Wharf to the right - opposite the ferry. It is a very popular tour. It is $$$$ but people seem to love that one. Alternatively there is a snorkeling tour and that was loved by members of my family.
6. There is a trolly ride in St. George that was cute but there is nothing to see. I booked it on my own for 1/2 the price the cruise ship wanted me to pay for it.

Thank you !
We try to stay away from the ship's excursions because of the cost and time constraints and usually do our own thing once we get on the pier.
A lot of the ship's excursions have weight restrictions, and unfortuantely, DH is over them. Swimming with the dolphins is out for us.
We are on a 9 night cruise and have a lot of time at sea for lounging by the pool, so going ashore to go to a beach is not important to me. I'd rather sightsee, learn some of the history of the island.

The Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo is awesome! We took a ferry and then a bus and spent almost a full day there.

My pleasure, in that case what I would do:
Once the boat docks make sure you are right down near the exit to leave, then walk fast to the ferry. We let them take our photos and missed the ferry by seconds and had to wait 30 minutes.

So walk fast about 1/4 mile to the ferry. Take the ferry to Hamilton. In Hamilton walk Front Street and from the Left of the ferry docs is the Princess Hotel. It is about 1/2 mile away. You can walk or take a taxi. There is nothing to see from the left of the docs. The nice walk is to the right of the docs. I would call to see what time they do High Tea versus when you will be there - depending upon the times I would reverse this. From Hamilton I would get a Taxi to the Caves. Get the name of the taxi driver and his number to call him. There is a public bus but it will take a long time and it is local. With only a few hours you need to time things right. It might be worth it to hire a taxi to give you a tour of the gardens. The aquarium and caves are close to one another. HTH

This is what I'd recommend. Definitely don't take the bus if you're only there for 6 hours. The bus ride is an hour plus.

There's not much to do AT King's Wharf. There are a few shops and restaurants but nothing too exciting. The only places I really like to visit at King's Wharf are the Snorkel Park- free beach where you can rent water equipment. They often have those huge inflatable slides or floating slides in the water. They have a bar/restaurant and volleyball nets, too. The other place is the rum cake place/glass blowing! Mostly because the glass stuff makes for great souvenirs and is pretty cool to watch if they are doing a demonstration and there are tons of free samples of rum cake. Chat Icon
