If you think something may not be right...?

I know they say that you should wait 1 year before seeing anyone but...what do you girls think? I'm about to turn 32, DH is 32 - we're both in good physical health. My mom had difficulty conceiving me...but when I spoke to my doc, she said not to worry because it's not hereditary.

I haven't been on BC since Feb 2010, but we used other protection up until Nov 2011.

What would you girls do? Should we try a few more months or should I see my doctor?

Please let me know. TIA Chat Icon

I would say give it the 6 months. So I'd call your dr in May if you're not PG yet, I wouldn't wait a year to call.

Re: If you think something may not be right...?

We started trying in September and I just went to see my ob/gyn in early January after 4 months with no luck. She ordered bloodwork for me but she didn't seem too concerned since we hadn't been trying for too long and I only had one months worth of temping/charting to show her. But my cycles were kind of irregular and I was concerned. I say it couldn't hurt to see your doctor. My doctor actually told me she prefers to see her patients before they even start ttc. She likes to get the bloodwork results to see if there are any potential problems.

I was 38, DH is 41 and I have med issues that could cause problems.
We had not used BC of any sort for about a year and I was convinced there was a problem. But we also were not paying attention to timing. I went to the Dr in January, she told me it was fine. To pay attention to timing a little bit more and try OPK's. I ordered OPK's and was PG by March.

I agree. I would give it 6 months and then go speak to your Dr.

Thanks so much everyone! I think waiting til May to call my doc and using OPKs sounds good.

I used OPK's in Dec & this month. Everything number and date-wise looks good for me (smiley on CD 12 both months, LP 12 days in Dec, LP 13 days this month).

In Dec, we waited until we got the smiley to BD on CD 12 & 13. In Jan, we BD much more, CD 6, 8, 11, 12, 13.

I hope it's all just a matter of timing...

Thanks again for your advice Chat Icon

I wouldn't worry about your mom having issues. FWIW, quite a few women in my family had fetility issues including my mom. I was worried I would have trouble conceiving, but conceived quickly with both of my pregnancies. I'd keep using OPKs and/or chart. If nothing happens within the next several months, you can speak with your doctor. Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: If you think something may not be right...?

I would give it 6 months of using opks or temping. As long as you're getting a positive on the opks, u have no reason to think youre not O'ing or that anything may be wrong. The months u were 'trying' before opks - u could just be totally off in your timing and not realize. If after 6 months of using opks, its still not happening, i would give your ob/gyn a call - you could go for bloodwork to confirm youre O'ing and get a script for dh to go for a SA and go from there. I think its too soon to start worrying Chat Icon Chat Icon
