Has anyone refinished a bathtub?
Like used one of those services instead of replacing an old pink (or whatever) tub and tiles, just refinished it to white? If so, was the quality of work good and was the cost relatively low?

Re: Has anyone refinished a bathtub?
Do you plan to stay in the home? If so, I would not do it. I did this in my old home and honestly it's hard to clean, you can't use certain cleaners, scrubbers, etc, stains easily and chips down the line. Won't last forever. So if you plan to stay in your home, don't do it!!! If you plan to sell, then hey,it's temporary and not your problem.

Re: Has anyone refinished a bathtub?
I'm thinking for a home we're considering buying. The rest of the bathroom is nicely updated but the tub and surrounding tiles are pink. If I don't hear good things about refinishing I'm thinking I may just get a great shower curtain and keep it closed all the time until we can afford to have a whole new tub and surround put in.

Honestly I believe this is the way to go. Just wait and redo the whole tub. Or if you want to do it, just know in a few years you will either need to refinish the tub again or get a new tub. As I said above, its just temporary fix. I did it in my old home but would never ever consider it in my forever home.

Thanks so much! This won't be our forever home (most likely) but will be a 5-10 year home. I appreciate your response, it has definitely helped!

Re: Has anyone refinished a bathtub?
I did it...We had a blue bathtub so i hired a company to do it. He did it for 250. Im in my house over 2 years and I do see a little chip but nothing noticeable to anyone else. However, I have a separate shower so we only use our bathtub to give my DD a bath. When we are ready to redo the whole bathroom then i will get a new tub but for now it looks great!

Re: Has anyone refinished a bathtub?
My mom had it done. Same as a PP - around 250, I think actually more. Her tub is seafoam green and she wanted to keep the color.
A new tub is like $300 so I would either buy a new one, or do as you were thinking - shower curtain and keep closed.

Re: Has anyone refinished a bathtub?
I redid our whirlpool tub myself, since it was a hideous dark brown, and I couldn't afford to replace it (way more $$ than a conventional tub). Unfortunately, my dog used to jump in that tub whenever there was thunder.... it doesn't hold up well to years of dog claws scraping on it.... However, whatever he wasn't able to claw at, has held up very well, and I'm definitely glad I did it. The kit was pretty cheap (got it at HD), and it only took a day or two, I think (did it well over 10 years ago....) for the taping, cleaning, painting, and letting everything cure. It's on my list of things to eventually get around to doing to redo the floor of the tub. I figure since our dog isn't around anymore, redoing the floor of the tub will give us at least another 10 years of a nicer color tub without having to buy a new one.

I agree with this. We were considering doing this in our apt but our contractor strongly advised against it. We ended up ripping out the tub and installing a new one. I would wait and really do it the way you want when you are ready.

Yes
It looked nice but you really need to be careful with what you use to clean it. It can crack or chip the finish

Re: Has anyone refinished a bathtub?
We refinished an old yucky pink tub when we moved in 6 years ago and it still looks great! It is our second bathroom - so we don't shower in it on a regular bathroom - so that might be why it still looks like new. We paid $325 just for the tub.
