Re: Grieving Property Taxes in Huntington
i greived my taxes inhuntignton the past 2 years and won both time
the onlytime you can greive is in the first 2 weeks of may
go to town hall and you get the forms -they tell you how to fill them out
you need an appraisal dated around july 2011 for this year greivance - or you need to compare your house to ther sales around july 2011 - you can usually use the appraisal from when you bought the house
then you file the paperwork by the deadline - ussually 2nd or 3rd teusday in may
in sept you find out if you won and how much lower taxes are or lost
you can appeal and it is very comon to need to appeal - i did the first year and won in january with a settlement offer - they tell you how to fillout the appeal and what to do when you pick up the appeal forms from town hall
I saved almost 3,000 and almost 4,000 the second time (my taxes went up becuase of a builfding permit)

does the greivance carry over to the next year or do you have to do it every year?

Re: Grieving Property Taxes in Huntington
i don't know if they normally go up every year but maybe every few years
but buildign permits seem to adjust taxes faster - and not always for the right reason - we did not add square footage or new bathrooms and they wanted to increase our taxes by 50%

We've been here for 6 years and our taxes has gone up every year.
Thank you for this information. I added this link to my notebook for future use. We just added 2 rooms to our house and expect the taxes to go up once we get our C of O. Maybe next spring I will look into it.
