is this a good price for siding?
So the contractor we are most likely going to hire for our dormer extension gave us a price on roofing and siding, but we're debating whether we hire him for all 3 (framing the shell, roofing & siding) or just for the framing (since he had a good price!). His price for roofing was $6K which I think is great (although bear in mind it’s just for a new roof itself since the existing layers being ripped off are already part of his demo/re-framing price)….and his price for siding is $9K. That seems high to me considering it’s ONLY for half a house (we have a typical A frame type of house in Queens, 1st floor is brick so siding is only for the extended 2nd floor).
What do you think, good price or no? I think I need to get some estimates from siding contractors separately to compare….

Seems high to me unless you're doing shake/shake look shingles. I know those are more expensive.
For regular siding it seems pricey to me.

I have a colonial that's brick on the bottom..we sided and got new windows and doors (sliders) for our den at the same time...the siding portion of it came in at a little less than what you were quoted so i am thinking it may be a bit high but not much...I would probably get a few more quotes to compare...

depends on what you're doing.
we did a full second story dormer over a cape with an attached agarage and contracted out the pieces ourselves
roofing was -$5500 with them suppplying the shingles
siding all in price was probably close to $16K-17K with shake on the front a front porch that had a soffet and metalwork for them to do and linnials around the windows price was $6500 install the rest was materials, I don't quite remember that bill.
6K for the roof isn't high unless you have a considerably smaller house than me. siding if you're not doing shake or anything "fancy" 8K might be a little high, but I doubt you could find les than 6-7
