homeowners insurance?

Hi everyone! I am a new member and just wanted to ask what you all pay for homeowners insurance. I have gotten some quotes ranging from 1500-1900 and wanted to know if that was a fair price. The house we are in contract to buy is about 2300 sq ft. Help :)

It really depends where the house is located and the specifics of the house.

We got a great quote of $978 but we aren't near water, have a non aggressive dog, pretty close to FD, no raised deck, unfinished basement, and a newer roof and 1713 sf.

it really depends on the home-location-etc but I would shop around before you commit. Different companies do have very different rates.

Re: homeowners insurance?

Thanks for the advice! We are not close to water, no dog, new roof, and have a fire hydrant very close. I called state farm and geico. State farm was a bit less than geico. They also tell me that if I switch my car insurance to them they
will drop the price by a %. I guess I need to call a few more!! So stressful buying a house :)

Re: homeowners insurance?

I would find a broker...we used royal brokerage...a vendor on here and he got us a great rate for homeowners & car insurance

Re: homeowners insurance?

You have to get quotes. It's not just the factors of the house, but your credit comes into play too. The better your credit the lower your rate. Also if the prior owner put in a claim, you will pay for it.

Call a broker, it's the best way to shop your rate.

Yes, they just told me the same thing. I called two brokers and 7 companies. Got the best quote from State Farm. Where is the house? The lady I dealt with in the Merrick office is beyond sweet and knowledgeable.

Re: homeowners insurance?

The house is in Smithtown. I called statefarm as well and yes they are very nice. We are just waiting now for the appraisal of the home that was done a few days ago. Most places said they needed that to give me a quote.

We just got 3 quotes and SF was the lowest (our soon to be home is in Commack and is 2100 sq ft). They used our appraisal to come up with the quote. The range of prices we got were between $1400 and $2100
