Ugh, chain restaurants
Tonight my ILs are watching DS since I have to be at the airport for a flight at 6AM, DH & I decided to use a Red Lobster giftcard someone got us.
I felt like complete $hit halfway through the meal.
And it's ONLY when I eat at places like this.
Anyone else have this problem?
It's so bad too, because it's not a cheap night out when it's all said and done with drinks and everything. And we RARELY go out just the two of us.
What.a.WASTE!

Re: Ugh, chain restaurants
Red lobster is actually the only chain resturant I will eat in. I think it is a matter of what you order. I usually get there fire grilled fish with broccoli and a baked potato.

Ugh, I despise chain restaurants! If it has been been cheap it would have been OK, but the problem is that they are far from cheap and you always end up a very considerable amount of money for something mediocre at best! Might as feel to go out for sushi...

Re: Ugh, chain restaurants
i used to eat at chain restaurants on a pretty regular basis, but have given them up for the most part
i'd honestly rather have sushi, and we have great small places by us..other than that we pretty much eat at home
once in awhile we'll eat at cozumels, but really just bc we like the margarita flight..we share a bowl of the house soup as our meal..

I've never been to Red Lobster so I can't say. I do go to P.F Chang's and the Cheesecake Factory pretty often and I've never had a problem.

Dh and I LOVE Applebees!! We used to eat there once a week before we got married...now, w/ DD being 7 months old...we feel comfortable going to eat there and bringing her...although now we are lucky to get every other month.

I feel living on long island we have so many other options. When I travel to places off the beaten path I seek out chains.

Dh and I have been avoiding chain restaurants for years. There are plenty of privately owned restaurants where you can get healthier, better-tasting meals for about the same price.

I've never met a restaurant- or a food- I didn't like.

Re: Ugh, chain restaurants
I am okay at most chain restaurants, but the one that consistently makes me feel sick is Pizzeria Uno. I haven't eaten there in years. I've lost interest in Applebees and Fridays, but will go on occasion. I'm fine with most of the others (although I have never eaten at Red Lobster).

Re: Ugh, chain restaurants
We used to go to Applebees all the time, but lately, their portion sizes has gone down and the food literally tastes like it is battered in salt! Also, one time I ordered a dish that had red peppers in it & I asked them to please leave them out. I was told by the waiter that they cant do it because the food arrives at the restaurant frozen prepared, & portioned. ughh.

DH and I LOVE Chili's! The only other chain restaurants I really go to are Cheesecake Factory, Boulder Creek and California Pizza Kitchen, I've never had a problem with any of them.

Re: Ugh, chain restaurants
I stopped eating at chains like chilis, Fridays etc a while ago, because is feel the same way after eating there. I don't know what it is. The oil, the grease? I once watched a 20/20 show a few yrs ago - and they said often times when you want to blame the grease, or sauce etc... It really was a mild form of food poisoning. Maybe something wasnt kept at temperature? It really could be anything.
I will add, the only chain we do eat at and it's not often is PF Changs, for their rice and soup.

ITA. I don't feel like I save any money when I go to places like olive garden or houlihans etc and I am always unsatisfied. I'd rather support privately owned restaurants anyday. Prices are comparable IMO and I feel there is more attention paid to the food. Depending on where you go, of course.

I feel the same way! I sometimes do enjoy going to Applebees or the Cheesecake Factory...or OLIVE GARDEN! But, I look at them kind of like a step up from fast food.
