not sure where to post -I'm confused OBGYN's office just called me
I didn't know where to post this , so I figured this board is ok :
I had an appt about 2 weeks ago, the OBGYN decided to do a pap smear , she said "let's do it now so we don't have to do it if and when you get pg" They just called me with the results, well the nurse did. She said the results are back and everything looks good, "the pap smear is normal" she said it's negative for HPV, no abnormal cells , chlamydia and few other things so it's all good, BUT I have to go back and repeat a pap smear bc they didn't get enough cells I asked if I should be worried, she said no , not at all, they just need to repeat it. I have been going to an OBGYN since I was 18 , I'm 31 and I never had this happen before so I'm confused , little frustrated and a bit annoyed since it's so hard for me to go in bc of DD and all , plus our insurance changed and it will be a bit more $ . I don't understand what happened, is it bc the dr didn't do a proper job? or is it bc of some other reason? The nurse is Russian and doesn't communicate very well so she couldn't really exp;ain everything as well as I would have liked. Just wondering of anyone has had this happen and what the reason/outcome was.
Thanks

How did they get results w/out sufficient

this - if everything checks out A OK, why do they need more cells?

I'm sure your fine. That's why I'm so confused, how can everything be normal if they didn't have enough cells? Not that I'm worried about anything but I just don't like not having clear answers. I called them back and the OBGYN will call me back tomorrow.

I called back again and spoke to the nurse in Russian, she isn't giving me clear answers and can't explain exactly what's going on , so I'm going to wait for the OB to call back.

this would drive me we'r not talking about a eye test or a car part ITS A PAP SMEAR get your sheet straight before you call the patient!!! Sorry but things like this irk me! My Dr ordered a breast sono b/c mamo came back unclear so I got one. The next day I get my mamo results "ALL CLEAR" Im like then why the breast sono??? Dr office gave some lame excuse .. "oh just to make sure, mamo was not that clear".. I was piised, it worried me and I was nervous..plus I had to pay part of my deductible! Sometimes I think providers want the $$$$$$$$ from insured patients!

I know , I can't stand this! Now I'm all stressed even though I'm trying not to be I have always had a problem with this woman, she drove me crazy when I was pregnant few months ago. She said so many silly things to me , not sure if it's the communication issue/language barrier , but I speak Russian so....or if it's just who she is , but I tolerate it bc I love my OB , I', just not sure how this nurse is still working there, surely I'm not the only patient who isn't happy with her.
Agh, sorry for venting like this and going on and on , I'm just frustrated with the whole thing.

The pap is probably missing the endocervical cells. Meaning the inside of the cervix. When a pap is done, the brush obtains endocervical as well as ectocervical cells. (inner and outer cervix).
These pap results report as satisfactory for evaluation. Endocervical component absent. However the cells that were obtained were probably negative for lesion or malignancy. Which is probably why the nurse told you negative.
I HTH
BTW, not uncommon at all. I see this at least once weekly.
