What did you do in between selling & buying?
I am up in the air about what to do with my family when we sell this place and before buying a new one. I don't want to own two houses at the same time, nor do I want to be in an apartment for a long period of time. Just curious how you worked it out.

Re: What did you do in between selling & buying?
We are living at my dads. 10 weeks now. Looks like we are closing in about 10 days but arte then gutting the kitchen and doing some other work so we will remain here till that is done.
It is very crowded and I can't wait to be in our own space again but it saved us on renting something.

Re: What did you do in between selling & buying?
you can speak to your attorney about this and of course the buyers would have to agree but who knows what their situation is on their end...
it would be to close (so you are assured that you arent stuck into a mortgage any longer) and then not have the buyer take possession yet and pay them rent for the time that you stay in the house, past closing. then immediately after you close, start looking for a house or if you did already, get serious and sign a contract as soon as possible and of course ask for a fast closing if possible.
if this was something you would consider, just make sure you speak to your attorney about the details and know what you are responsible for after you close, and what the new owners are responsible for and also a thorough inspection has to be done right before closing and then of course the new owner will want to inspect before they officially take possesion at which time there are just a few more docs to sign..
(most times the buyer didnt even think about this and they could be in the same situation so they might be happy to get paid rent since they might also be worried about holding 2 mortgages or rent)

Re: What did you do in between selling & buying?
We wound up owning 2 houses for a few mths. There was no other way for us but it worked out great b/c we made any changes in the new house during the mths time period so it was move in ready when our first house then sold.

We are renting now, and closing on or about march 15.
We will end up paying double for April. Pay rent for april and mortgage for April. No way around it.

Technically you will pay April's mortgage at closing, so maybe it won't feel like paying double
