PIO Question
DH & I will be starting IVF in Jan. We met with our Dr last week and I addressed my concern over the PIO shot. I have done injectibles before so I am not nervous to do these but the PIO shot scares the *%$@ out of me! DH will most likely not be able to give the shot to me b/c of his work schedule. The Dr said I can choose to do the progesterone vaginally but typically their protocol is to use the PIO shot.
DH is pushing me to go with the PIO, he says that if the IVF doesnt work, he knows I will blame myself for not choosing to do the shots.
Can anyone tell me if it does make a difference? and is it as scary & hurt as everyone makes it seem?

Re: PIO Question
i had my mom do the PIO shot for me cause DH is a fainter LOL...SMH the actual shot wasnt bad at all for me! what i didnt like was the after affect....the spot where the shot was would hurt and then by the next day the pain would be gone. I would feel a lump in the spot where the shot was also. That lasted for a few days.
Because of the angle i think it would be hard to do your own PIO shot but i have seen youtube videos of women doing their own....so it is possible!

Re: PIO Question
I hate that darn shot. My DH (who has a similar schedule) does it when he was home. My grandmother does it when he is not. Recently I have been able to do it myself.
I can't tell you one over the other but I have been currently on 3x/day Endometrin and 1ml of PIO since November 30th. They just lowered me today to 1/2ml.
Just keep in mind you may have to do both; it sux but it's worth it. My arse is killing me.

Re: PIO Question
The first week or so is the hardest and then you just go numb to the shot. I barely feel it anymore!
I think it is the most effective way to deliver progesterone to your uterus.

Re: PIO Question
The Dr said I can opt out of the shot and just do the vaginal ones 3 x a day. He said all together the PIO will be done 3 times.
I just dont want to regreat not doing it if something doesnt work.
This is the only thing I am scared of when it comes to IVF.

Re: PIO Question
if you are using a lupron trigger you absolutely should use PIO. if you are using an HCG trigger then it can go either way. i dont think you would get a BFN altogether if your progesterone was low, it would prob end up a chemical if it wasn't treated. most REs do progesterone checks with betas so if it was low with a BFP they could always switch you to PIO then. but do you really want to have to worry about that?

Re: PIO Question
Do what you feel comfortable with. You don't want to have any "what ifs." If you're Dr. says you can substitute for supps then why not? I give myself all shots, including PIO, so it is possible.
