Re: homeowners insurance
That is very high...unless you're right on the water and in a flood zone??
We have a great price from State Farm.
Have you contacted who you use for car insurance for a possible bundle discount?

Re: homeowners insurance
I would imagine after Hurricane Irene, insurance premiums probably went up across the board.
Years prior to Irene a lot of the big companies stopped writing policies, so I'm not totally shocked by the quotes you are getting.
Have you tried a broker? We are water-view (4 houses in from the water, but not a flood zone) and pay about the a little less than the middle of your range, plus $400 a year for flood insurance.

Re: homeowners insurance
Thanks! We are not near the water or in a flood zone, no pool etc.
I just called a broker, he wants to see the appraisal and then he will call me back.
State farm was high for us.

Re: homeowners insurance
Mine is $1,500, the highest was 5k!
I had to shop around quite a bit. I am near the water but not in a flood zone, and not all that close.
A few people I know told me they pay more like $1,000-$1,300.

Re: homeowners insurance
We bought in June and went with GEICO, because we have our auto insurance with them. I believe ours is 1300 - 1400. Sorry, but I don't have a contact person. Good luck!

Re: homeowners insurance
We got the lowest cost from Newbridge. I posted before but the quote was for $1450 a year with better coverage than SF and others (higher amount of coverage, better liability and only $5000 deductible on hurricane insurance vs. $15,000).
Call Anthony! He was excellent and I highly recommend! 516-781-9000 ext. 118
ETA: We have a 2200 sq ft house so the quote was great.

Re: homeowners insurance
We just changed companies because our rates went up.
Our broker said that because of the high number of claims after Irene most companies raised their rates.

Ours is around $1,600. Same thing with us - near the water but not in a flood zone. There are so many factors in the price though - the cost of the house, pool, hot tub, etc....
Also, adding the jewelry rider added about $200 a year to our policy.

Re: homeowners insurance
I got quotes from $1400 and up which did not beat what I already pay for Mercury. I called everyone direct and brokers and no one could beat my price.

Re: homeowners insurance
I'm with NRMA for both car and home/content insurance, and as with most insurance companies, they will give you a better deal if you combine the two (especially if you've been with them for a long time). So you might want to check out your car insurance company for a home insurance cost (if you have a car and if they provide home insurance).
Never had any problems with NRMA – haven't had to make a home claim yet (touch wood), but never had any issues with car insurance over the past 10 years.

Re: homeowners insurance
We pay $1500 a year. I think that's pretty average.
