Where do I begin?
We have been TTCing for 1 year. I had a m/c in July, otherwise, no other BFPs.
I have been using OPKs the past 3 months.
I turn 37 on Saturday and I want to take a more proactive action in our journey to conceive.
My question is where do I begin?
Do I have to go to my OB before going to see an RE?
Can anyone recommend an RE?
I know one I may consider, but want to know what other options are.
TIA

Re: Where do I begin?
Some insurance companies require you to go to your OB first but if you don't have to I would go straight to an RE. I see Dr. Brenner at LI IVF and I really like my experience with them. Everyone there is very professional and kind. There is never a long wait and they have 3 locations. A lot of girls on here go to Dr. B, I've heard really good things about him. I decided on a RE based on location and ins coverage.
Good luck!

Re: Where do I begin?
I went straight to a RE but my insurance did not require anything to be able to move on.
CHeck with your insurance as to what treatments are covered adn which Drs are covered. IT can get very expensive and if you have coverage I would not pay OOP. There are plenty of good Drs out there and in my experience the majority of them take various insurance plans.
I went to Columbia in the city since it was convenient to work and would enable be not to miss work since there are tons of appts.

Re: Where do I begin?
Book your consult with an RE, and don't wait! It only gets harder with age, and often, they put your mind at ease. Check with your insurance company and see what their rules are.
Many people choose RE's based on location/insurance. We all have our favorites, and some of us have visited more than 1. Second opinions, etc. you can FM me for a recommendation. :)

Re: Where do I begin?
I totally agree with LIRASCAL, dont wait.....so far I have had a pleasant exp. with RSOFNY, they have an office on Stony brook, West Islip, Mineola & Brooklyn.....many of the ladies on this boad go to LI IVF or Dr. B and they seem happy as well....best of luck!!

Re: Where do I begin?
As long as your insurance doesnt require a referral, you can go straight to a RE. If you have out of network coverage, I highly recommend Dr Braverman!
I went to 2 other RE's before settling on him! GL

Re: Where do I begin?
Thank you all so much for the responses. I am not 100% sure about the exact overage but (1) I know I named a referral and (2) they cover testing, some meds, artificial insemination but do NOT cover IVF.
DH and I are seriously considering changing health insurance to another plan that we know has significantly better coverage.
I have an appt on 12/28 with my OB/GYN to get a referral, just in case.
I have to be honest, I am afraid. Afraid of OB asking what we've done so far (only OPKs) and being told to go home to try other methods (temping, fertility monitor, etc) and if that doesn't work come back. I'm also afraid a RE would say that too
Where does a RE usually start? What's the process??

Re: Where do I begin?
i dont knwo if a ob would say to try another method..esp if u have been ovulating no prob
a RE would just start with some health background and prob a blood and a sono and go from there
i also think the RE would not tell u to try other methods..they actually could sugegst meds or TI or iui etc
best of luck
