If you have steam heat in your older house
are certain rooms just colder than others?
My son's room and our spare room seem to get heat last and so sometimes by the time the heat gets there, the thermostat has reached temperature and shuts off.
We already had insulation blown into the house 1 month ago and carpeted his room. But it's still cold in there and we have to use a space heater.
Anyone found any solutions? Our house was built in 1939.

Me me me me!!
Get your oil company to come in and level the steam radiators and make sure the valves are open the right amount. If your son's room is the last on the line his radiator should be all the way open and others along the line should be open about half way.
I have steam heat on my first floor. My office is the last radiator on the line and is always cold. I have to adjust the valves every now and then.
I had to replace them all at one point because the threads were bare when trying to screw them tighter.

We have the same problem. Some rooms are definitely colder than others. We'll make sure to try this this winter!

Grew up with steam radiators. Check the vents.http://www.nytimes.com/1987/10/22/garden/home-improvement-preparing-radiators-for-winter.html?pagewanted=all&src=pm

This. Besides this house, we have always had those old radiators and every year DH would bleed them before we started using them. You can buy a key for them if you don't have one from a plumbing supply store for 75 cents lol.

We put steam base board in my sons room because the radiator wasn't doing the job and I was worried about turning it up since he's little. It has worked wonders!!

This is good to know. My dad had suggested this.
We've bled the radiators but the heat in those last 2 rooms is still just not enough.
I'm even thinking that maybe we should see if we can have a separate heat zone up there but DH is not on board and who knows how much it will cost.
