Do you tip your garbage and mail men for the holidays?
If so - how much is appropriate? We are new homeowners so we have never had to do this. How about the UPS delivery men? I've been getting deliveries every other day this season

I want to tip, I'm big on tipping......but my garbage men have been so terrible this year. This is the only week they actually didn't throw my cans in the road or in the middle of my lawn. We will see. If I tip it will be forty. So twenty each

The garbage men are GREAT. They take everything. Giving them $40 (there are 2 of them). Mailman sux so he/she is getting nothing.

Many public employees cannot take tips. Mailmen are not allowed.
Plus they are getting paid to do their job. Unless they are putting your cans away for you or the mailman is doing something above and beyond on a daily basis they do not need to be tipped.

No. It is their job to collect garbage, deliver mail, packages. Unless they did something WAY above and beyond then maybe... I just don't see the need. Tipping has gotten way out of control.

Garbage men $50 each so $150 total
All packages get delivered to office, so UPS, Fedex get $50 each as well

I just sent a $10 tip to the Newsday delivery guy (We only get on Sundays) and we will be tipping the garbage men $20 each. DH says there are 3. I've never seen them but they're great. They take EVERYTHING we put out. The mailman..not sure since they aren't allowed to take a tip...maybe bake something...?
ETA: We are first time homeowners, too, so i'm going on what I see here, mostly..

$20 newspaper guy, $20 gc for mailman, and last year we did not tip garbage guys because they were terrible, but this year they have been better so probably $40
