When to see a doctor
I've noticed some women on here say they've been trying for a really long time. We're only been trying for 3 months, but I'm already really nervous, like why aren't we getting pregnant. Month 2 we started using OPK, I thought we BD at the right times month 2 and 3, but AF showed up 11 DPO both months. Should I be concerned yet?
At what point do you go see your doctor?

Re: When to see a doctor
I started seeing an RE almost immediately because I already knew I had PCOS so I didn't want to waste any time. As it turns out, the RE uncovered about a hundred other issues and two years later, I am hoping this my the bfp that brings me my baby!!!

Re: When to see a doctor
Commonly, if you have regular cycles and no reason to think you have any medical issues hindering getting pregnant, they recommend you see a doctor after a year of trying if you're under 35 and after 6 months of trying if you're over.
I saw a specialist asap because I have PCOS and no amount of waiting was going to make me ovulate.

Re: When to see a doctor
If you are only trying for 3 cycles then I would not rush to see a Dr unless you know you have issues such as PCOS or previous losses.
Most Drs will say try for 6-12 months depending on your age.

Re: When to see a doctor
at the time i was 35 and decided after 3 months of trying it was time to see the gyno. i told him im no spring chicken and wanted to get checked out because we were ttc. that day he did an internal sono and found two fibroids the size of marbles. he then wanted me to get a saline sono. a little over a week later i had it done and it showed i had a polyp that was not in a good spot. he suggested a d&c to remove it so i did. went for a follow up and he said we could start ttc. i asked how long before he ran more test and he said 4months. i was not happy so i decided to at 36 to see an re.
i just wanted to make sure everything was ok with me and to get a little.
everyone is different. in the end im glad i did it

Re: When to see a doctor
With perfect timing there is only a 25% chance of conceiving. I would not worry at all yet! Personally after 5-6 months I plan on calling my dr.

This.. we waited a little over a year and one m/c before we went to an RE. I was 28 when we started seeing one.

Re: When to see a doctor
Typically if you are under 35 with no known issues, it is a year of trying. Over 35 it is 6 months. My doc was hesitant to send me cause i had gotten pregnant (chemical pregnancy) but still.. He thought that maybe i was ok. The first months of trying to conceive, can be the most stressful and frustrating times. Keep trying. Dont give up hope. Just keep having faiith that it will happen for you. Good luck!!

Re: When to see a doctor
The last time I was at the doctor she told me if I was not pregnant by a year to make an appt. Feb will be a year and I just made the appt just in case. What do they do from that point? Anyone know?

Re: When to see a doctor
I started seeing a RE as soon as we decided we were going to start TTC. I knew already that I had PCOS and very irregular cycles.

Re: When to see a doctor
I recently asked this question on the boards so I will share my experience. IMO three months is a little early and I don't think a gyn would necessarily recommend that unless you knew something was wrong. However, I found that you don't necessarily have to wait a year either. This really helped ease my mind because I got anxious a little early. I decided to go after 8 months. My reasoning, by the time all the testing and decision making is done, we will be at about a year and we will be ready to take action instead of waiting another few cycles on top of that.
I know that you don't want to hear this, because none of us do....but getting nervous isn't going to help things along if everything is ok.
Good Luck and

Re: When to see a doctor
i know it seems like forever but 3 months is not that long..and i said they same thing when i was at month 3..
truth is..it happens more often later than not..it is rare on the first try or second..although i swear everyone on this board gets them lol
normal healty couples can take up to a yr and thats usually when docs say to go
i went sooner bc i have fertility issues..PCOS and since multiple loses
but trust ur gut..if u want to go then go get a blood test if it gives u peace of mind, nothing wrong with that
best of luck to you

Re: When to see a doctor
I was in your boat a few months ago - started OPK month 2, by month 3 I still had no BFP. I was getting really worried and I wound up getting my BFP the next month, although it ended in MC. However, my doctor told me to see him if I didn't get pregnant within 6 months, and I am 30. I am sure you will get your BFP soon!

Re: When to see a doctor
I wouldn't be concerned yet, but you may want to chart. I think it helps you get to know your body and if there are issues, you may be able to detect some of them (i.e. luteal phase defect, annovulatory cycle, etc) through charting. Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a really good resource.

Re: When to see a doctor
I am dealing with a doctor already and technically this is my first cycle... but I am in a race against the size of my fibroid and they are trying to get me pregnant as fast as possible, because if it hits 10cm it has to come out and could risk my fertility, so he wants to know immediately if were up against anything else.

Re: When to see a doctor
Thank you for all your responses! After being on BCP for so long (since age 16) I always just assumed as soon as I stopped taking them I'd get pregnant. It's hard when you realize it's not that easy. I'm also very quick to assume that if something's not working, then something must be wrong. I have to get out of that mindset. I'll be 34 in March and I had a LEEP about 8 yrs ago and a ruptured ovarian cyst about 3 yrs ago. Since the LEEP I've seen my gyno every 6 months and there haven't been any issues since (other than the cyst). When I talked to him over the summer about TTC and whether or not the LEEP would effect my chances, he said I would just need to be monitored closely once I got pregnant. He didn't seem too concerned. If I don't get a BFP by March, I think I'll schedule an appointment just for my own peace of mind.
