Replica Bags?
Do you get them? Do you care that they are not the "real one"? Do you find them detrimental to the handbag/designer industry? Do you tell people who compliment you that they are not real, or do you keep them guessing? Any other feelings?
************************ ETA: Realized I forgot to add my 2cents on the matter. I am all for replica bags. My contention is that the same work force is making the real and replica bags, if you buy the replica version, perhaps they are keeping the money for themselves
And as the 2 below posters have mentioned (hey ladies!! ) I will proudly tell those close to me that its a fake AND where they can buy it , anyone else just gets the "Oh...this old thing? Thanks so much!"
Although I have to say the "Dream" bag thread is what sparked this, all of the people on there who were like "Ooooo... I have that bag in black, and NEXT year I am buying myself a LV!" Made me extremely jealous...cause as much as I want to think even if I had the money I wouldn't buy one I probably would just because I could. That is so wrong, right?

Re: Replica Bags?
I generally don't get them, but if I saw one I liked I wouldn't be opposed. The prices they charge for these handbags are just plain ridiculous so you can excuse me if I don't want to put an entire paycheck towards a purse. I honestly don't care what it does to the handbag industry, though they certainly don't seem to be hurting. If it's a friend, I tell them it's a fake PROUDLY. If it's someone on the street or a co-worker, I'd just say thanks and keep it moving because I think it would be weird to dive into a whole conversation about it.

Re: Replica Bags?
I don't have any, but I buy things based on what I like- not on the price tag, not on the label etc So if I saw a bag I liked and it happened to be a replica so be it. I'll buy it. I dont' feel bad for these designers- they are basically ripping the public off- $1500 for a bag? Really? Is that bag worth that? How much did that bag cost to make? Probably 20 bucks. But because it has the LV label on it- then we should all bow down and throw money at it.
As far as telling others- I would use the same policy as my fake hair. If it's a family member, co- worker or friend who compliments me on my fake hair or fake bag- I'd say- guess what, it's FAKE!
If someone on the street, a store clerk, etc compliments me, I say -THANK YOU!-and move on!

No way! We ALL would, let's be real. Those bags didn't even really do anything for me- except the Gucci one. I went back and gazed at that one a few times. But I STILL wouldn't pay the price they are asking for it.

Re: Replica Bags?
I liked this one from what appears to be Michael Kors (ElizaRags posted)
Funny - I was thinking to myself...they sell a lot of MK stuff at Marshalls and TJ Maxx wonder if I could find one similar.

You definitely could! It might be last season but who cares?! Or maybe Century 21?

Re: Replica Bags?
I got a fake LV in Italy that was really good. It was the white and blue damier which I would never get bc I fear it would get too dirty to quickly. When I get compliments I always say.."good fake isn't it?" just my personality like that with costume jewelery also. If people judge...whatever

Re: Replica Bags?
I would never buy a replica bag.
1. Mostly they are made in 3rd world countries by children who are barely paid, it's straight up abuse and the worst kind of sweat shop conditions. Google it, I saw a show once and BABIES were painting those cherries on LV bags with perfect precision.
2. It's illegal and stealing, it's not fair to copy someone's design and then make money off of it.
4. Supports organized crime.
3. Countries like China are making billions off of us buying fake versions.
So I don't support any of that. I'd rather save for the real version, or if I couldn't afford find something less expensive.
ETA - Spelling and to add I don't care about the handbag industry hurting as much as I do the poor people and children literally chained to a desk to make these fake bags.

I agree with the #2. As for #4 I am not exactly sure what you mean. But #1 I will have to disagree with. Do you really think that the designer labels are not using the same work force, and just slapping their own labels on them, calling them made in italy and charging thousands? There was an undercover story done in 2007 that showed that designers like Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana and Prada, who have factories in Italy are actually using Chinese immigrants in Italy to make their bags, in sweatshop conditions just to have the "made in Italy" tag on them.
Here are a couple of articles for you Made in China - on the Sly Decline of Luxury?

I don't know so much about it all besides the obvious, but organized crime is a driving force behind getting it from point a to b. If you google I am sure a lot of articles will come up about it.
Counterfeit goods isn't just handbags, it can even be baby formula, it's a corrupt 600 billion dollar industry.
All I remember is years ago watching children hand paint those cherries on fake LV bags under horrible conditions.
I do not know about real bags and who they employ, but if it's children or sweat shop conditions obviously that is horrible too.
Regardless I am not into the whole fake bag thing. I do not support it.

Re: Replica Bags?
I do not ( anymore) due to many reasons. Leb is completely correct in the fact that organized crime and terrorist have their hand in the business, something I do not want to support.
Also many of the places in NYC where this is going on are really screwed up as far as building and fire codes go. As a wife/ daughter of firemen I do not want to support these death traps that my loved ones will be expected to enter.
I'll either pay more or just suck it up and deal with a bag from target.

When I was a teenager I did. Not anymore.
I don't care if my bag is a name brand or target brand as long as I like it and it doesn't break the bank.

I bought a knockoff coach one time. It was a piece of crap. The zipper didn't close. All the bottoms and snaps fell off.
