who did you get your mortage through?
and what's the difference between a broker and a lender?
we're not sure if we're going to be doing an fha or conventional mortage, but want to start looking into different options

Bank. I've gotten quotes from both brokers and bankers and found working with a banker to be better for us.
Working with a Chase banker right now on a refi.

We went through a broker because he's a friend of DH's. Our mortgage is with Wells Fargo.

Re: who did you get your mortage through?
We got our mortgage through a broker. The bank is Wells Fargo. Dealing with the broker was a little aggravating toward the closing when the bank needed additional info and we had to go through the extra channel of speaking to the broker instead of to the bank directly, but it wasn't a huge deal. The broker did get us a very good rate.

I've worked for both a broker and a banker. Broker just has the ability to try to fit you into different programs at different banks, but sometimes direct lending at banks can give you a better rate.

We used a broker. Our mortgage was originally with Cole Taylor Bank but it was sold to Wells Fargo before our first payment was even due

A bank. I dont like the idea of paying a mortgage broker for work I can do myself.

Re: who did you get your mortage through?
Ive had a few mortgages. Sometimes bank. Sometimes broker. Sometimes CU.
I find my broker can offer wholesale rates that the banks don't usually post.
But my latest refi is with NEFCU as they offered 3.0% for a 15 year fixed which no bank or broker could touch at the time.

Re: who did you get your mortage through?
Continental Home Loans - They were great. It was then sold to M&T Bank before our first payment, but we knew that was going to happen when. No issues here.
I love that when I go online to pay my mortgage with M&T, I can see everything having to do with it. It tells me my current LTV, escrow balance, estimated payoff date based on extra payments, when taxes were paid out, PMI information, and so much more. I know that that's not a reason to go with a certain bank, but I like having that information at my fingertips, so that I really don't have to call customer service to find it out.

Re: who did you get your mortage through?
Bank of America. We tried a broker first but when we were about to go though the process it turned out he wanted to charge all these extra fees, so we went to the bank...
