Need some advice...4 Follies...

This month will be our 3rd IUI and this one is the first round with Clomid. I just got back from the RE and after examining me he said that i have 4 good follicles. 1 is very mature and should release soon and the others shortly after.

He mentioned to me that there is a (slim) possibility of having quadruplets since I have 4 good follicles. He said again, it's very rare but had to mention it to me as a possibility.

Now the fertility issue is with DH. He has low sperm count and abnormal sperm morphology. We have been trying for almost two years and suffered 1 loss. We are so confused by this news. I am just so upset...why is there always an obstacle? I welcome the thought of twins but I do not think I/we can handle anything more then that. Forgive me if that sounds wrong.

Do you think we should move forward with the IUI tomorrow and chance it or skip it and see how next months go.

I would move forward, but you have to do what you're comfortable with.

I had 4-5 one IUI and my DH has morphology issues but high counts. Well we didn't get pregnant, so the chance of all 4 happening are so very slim.

IUI's only have like a 15-20% chance of working, so with 4 your chances will be better.

There is always a chance of multiples with any fertility drugs.

You could wait for next month but who is to say you wont get 4 follies again. ALso just because you have four follies does not mean you have 4 eggs in there. I would go ahead and try it.

ETA my first IUI with clomid I had 3 follies and did not get PG. the 2nd one I had 2 and did not get PG so you really never know.

I had 4 follies last time I got pregnant and one took. We guessed that the reason why more didnt take was poor egg quality, especially since I ended up having a chromosomal abnormality. I have 4 mature for this cycle and I hope more take!

Of course there's a possiblity of non taking, but it's a very risky game.

If you decide to move forward, you have to be knowledgeable about the issues. Are you comfortable with the possiblity of having multiples (twins or MORE) and what you would do in the case that you do have them? If you have three or four, would you keep them all? Are you comfortable with selective reduction if you dont want to keep them?? If you do decide to keep them, do you have any medical conditions that would consider you high risk? That will increase your pregnancy risk even more? Keep in mind that simply by having multiples, you're considedred high risk.

These are some of the talking points when making an informed decision. I think some doctors dont prepare patients well enough, nor do some patients do enough of their own research.

While I could never say what I would ultimately decide until I was actually in that situation, I did tons of research, and I am fully aware of what I was getting myself into. I suggest you do the same- FM me if you have more questions.

I did a few IUIs and each time had more than 5 eggs the last IUI we had 3 "ok" quality eggs and the RE was very skeptical about doing it thinking it was a waste. Well i got A BFP with triplets..

Due to different medical issues we were suggested to selectively reduce. I am now currently 27 weeks pregnant with boy/girl twins.

Its all a very personal decision.

I always knew multiples was a possibility but figured what are the chances. I just want you to know its a possibility.

Thanks everyone for your responses and advice. We are both aware of the chances of multiples during this whole process. I guess it was just hearing the word "quadruplets" that freaked us out a little. This is our first month dealing with Clomid and didn't know what to expect.

We discussed and we are going to move forward with the IUI tomorrow. We are ready to take on what ever God has planned for us.

I have had 1, 2 and 4- no baby. A friend had 1 and that split and she is pregnant with with twins. There is no telling. They gave me the same shpeal when I had 4 eventhough the chances of it working were slim since I hadn't gotten pregnant with 2. They are just required to tell you that.

I would move forward but you have to be comfortable.

Well i haven't had any IUI's, but on my last month of clomid i produced 4 follicles. Only 1 took.

however my dh and i did talk about the possibilities of all the outcomes... with an IUI, IVF, etc. For us, we would reduce if it came down to 4 taking.

But it's a personal decision. I do think it's a small chance of it happening though.

i would go for it either way. 4 follies is not an abnormal response to any fertility med, and rarely does anyone end up with quads although it is possible. like the others said just because you have 4 follies doesn't mean that they all have eggs that will fertilize and implant. the chances are pretty low.

I've done several IUI's with at least 3 follies each time......this last one I had about 4-5 that were mature. We also have no sperm issues; and still didnt get PG.

GL today!!!

During my IUI's I ranged from 2-3 and was given the "Twins/triplets" possiblity. But IUI's didn't work for me. I think doctors have to lay out all the possiblities just to have their patients aware.

I had 4 follies last IUI and that resulted in a BFN...this 2nd IUI I will have 3 follies so we shall see....

I was suppose to surge yesterday and still nothing.

I have to go back on Monday if I do not surge over the weekend. I do not know what is going on.
