Here is probably a dumb Carbon Monoxide question...
Should you have carbon monoxide detectors if you don't have gas in your house?
We have oil heat and electric for cooking and I always say we need them and my husband says since we don't have gas, we don't need em.
I don't have an answer for him because I don't know. haha

According to DH, a malfunctioning oil burner can give off CO.

Absolultey. ASAP, go get them. I dont have gas and yet I have at least 4 of them in my home.
You esp can have CO get into your home if your garage is attached to your house and by some chance the car is left running inside the garage.

We don't use our garage for a car...part of it was taken by the prior owners for our mudroom so it can't really fit any car but a mini cooper which we don't have, haha.
But I guess the answer is yes. Thanks!
ETA: I bought one and he wouldn't put it up because of our dispute, so now I have to find it!

Supplemental dumb question--
We have central fire detectors thru Slomins--do they also cover carbon monoxide or no?

He is right! Our chimney liner collapsed and caused our burner to back up. Our house was FILLED with CO last year. Luckily we had CO detectors.. the fireman said the numbers were OFF THE CHARTS! We were all taken to the hospital by ambulance!

Fire detectors are not CO detectors. They can be both, but you'd have to check with Slomins to find out, or it might say on the detectors.
Sources of Carbon Monoxide
Unvented kerosene and gas space heaters; leaking chimneys and furnaces; back-drafting from furnaces, gas water heaters, wood stoves, and fireplaces; gas stoves; generators and other gasoline powered equipment; automobile exhaust from attached garages; and tobacco smoke. Incomplete oxidation during combustion in gas ranges and unvented gas or kerosene heaters may cause high concentrations of CO in indoor air. Worn or poorly adjusted and maintained combustion devices (e.g., boilers, furnaces) can be significant sources, or if the flue is improperly sized, blocked, disconnected, or is leaking. Auto, truck, or bus exhaust from attached garages, nearby roads, or parking areas can also be a source.
