Are you a potato person?
I was raised on potatoes and I was chatting with my friend and mentioned that 10 pounds should be enough for the 12 people I will have on Thursday. She was shocked. I figured it would be a decent amount for my potato eating family (with some leftovers). She then told me that she was making 5 pounds of potatoes for 20 people. If I was having 20 people I would probably make about 15 pounds. Are some families more potato people than others?

We're making 10 pounds for 13 people. We're also making 4 turkeys and a ham! We don't like to feel like we might run out!

I celebrate Thanksgiving with the Sullivans and O'Connors. We pretty much buy all the potatoes in Queens.

Re: Are you a potato person?
We are a potato family, love them! But I have family on the other hand that will make potatoes for 4 people, and to me that would only cover 2 people. That person does not 'get' potato cooking.

It's like a lasagna, except with mashed potatoes and sauteed onions. I start with melted butter in a pyrex dish, then I lay down a layer of cooked lasagna noodles, then more melted butter, then a layer of mashed potatoes, then a layer of sauteed onions, repeat! I also layer in some shredded cheese - we use cheddar and mozzerella. And then bake it for like 20 min until the cheese is all melted in.
This is in no way a "light" dish. It's all carbs and butter and cheese, but it is absolutely delicious!

Re: Are you a potato person?
I LOVE potatoes, but DH could take them or leave them. He really only likes them either roasted or twice-baked, whereas I could eat them any way possible, lol.

Re: Are you a potato person?
we're a potato family as well. but i'm not cooking so idk how many lbs of potatoes are going to be made. 5lbs for 20 people would definitely not be enough for my family though.
