prenatal vitamins
My dr wanted me to take prescription ones, however my insurance doesnt cover them.
I have been looking into getting otc ones but have no idea what is needed in the vitamin. is anyone on prescription prenatals that can tell me what it includes?
Do the prescriptions have the DHA in them...that is where i am seeing the biggest difference - some brands include a DHA supplement while others do not...is it necessary?

Re: prenatal vitamins
I stood in Target and compared a bunch of the OTC prenatals and realized that the majority of them are the same. From what I've heard, as long as its high in folic acid and iron (along with the rest of the laundry list of vitamins), then your safe. Alot of people recommended One A Day Prenatals, but the Target brand was identical in the vitamins, so I have been taking those.

Re: prenatal vitamins
thanks ladies! i was told by my dr to take 1000mg of folic acid...so it seems the GNC and CVS brands are the best bet when it comes to that
just uncertain with the DHA bc the GNC brand doesnt have it while CVS does

Re: prenatal vitamins
i have been taking the CVS ones (they were buy one get one free!) They don't have the DHA but I was told it doesn't really matter, the folic acid is what is important..

Re: prenatal vitamins
I originally had a prescription for prenatals but they are so expensive (between all I'm paying for the other fertility drugs and copays I can't afford yet another $60 a month) so now I just take the Target brand

Re: prenatal vitamins
Just make sure you have at least 800 mcg of folic acid in them. The DHA isn't really important before you get pregnant since it's main use is for brain growth and development of the baby. You can always add/switch once you get pregnant.
I am using the VitaFusion gummies from target. They are so yum!
