PR is a waste if its a night stop... Unless you like to drink and get wild... Or look into getting a tour of the bio bay... PR has some beautiful beaches and you cant see that at night... other than that, not much to see/do IMO
ST Maarten is one of my fav's... Orient beach (half is naked) and quite inetresting... better on the naked side though bc vendors arent allowed to try to sell over there... You also have to go to Maho beach where the planes fly right above your head... Theres a cool bar to chill at while there watching the planes... Best bet is to take a tour with bernardstours.com ... Got to see a lot with him!
St Thomas has some fabulous beaches! Coki and Sapphire were my favs... I didnt think Magens Bay was anything to rave about although people seem to like it... Jewelry shopping is also big on the island
DR Ive never been to
HTH! Im going on my 6th cruise in Jan... And have been to pretty much all the caribbean islands... So if you need any more info, let me know... Also, the boards on cruisecritic are my lifesaver! Check em out!

Re: eastern caribbean - ports of call
I haven't went on my cruise yet but the excursions I booked at those locations include:
St. Maarten - Rainforest Downhill Trek San Juan - Tropical Rainforest Zipline Adventure
We chose a lot of hikes, walking tours and ziplining because we don't usually do those things elsewhere and it seemed the most worth the money. We've gone to nicer beaches elsewhere and we can still eat and shop and drink on our own so we picked excursions where there was some action and adventure that we haven't done before!

My honeymoon cruise was in December and the weather was PERFECT!!! Definitely beach weather! Average was about 85 degrees. I think the best part was while we were at the beach, everyone back home was freezing their butts off!

There isn't really much at the port. Its not even big enough for docking. There is just a tiny hut for souveniers.
I found it rather.... scary. Not sure if its where we went or what we did but I wasn't comfortable. We went on an ATV tour to the beach, up a mountain, etc. We would be driving down the side of the mountain and there would be kids and guys holding huge machetes. Then at one point we had to stop for a car to pass by, and there happened to be some locals there. They spent the whole time catcalling and screaming at us.

Yeah that sounds scary! They use machetes mostly for gardening tools, to cut down bananas, dig up yuca, etc.
