If you have a small house........

do you feel uncomfortable hosting gatherings? Especially in the winter months?

We have a large kitchen and a living room (not huge) but no formal dining room.

Obviously when I host, it's for a small group or standing room only.

Re: If you have a small house........

I have a small home with an open floor plan. Im not he "dining room" type so it doent bother me. We are very casual and are friends are as well. I think the smaller place makes our gtg's more intimate and personal.

Funny we are ALWAYS hosting something. ppl flock to my home. Its not about the size its all about the vibe and atmosphere.Chat Icon

Re: If you have a small house........

yes. i have a small cape cod and it is REALLY tight having more than 2 people over for dinner. However, I still host Thanksgiving (for just my mom and grandparents so it is fine) and then either Easter or Mothers Day- which is like 17 people... I PRAY for a decent day so we can at least go out on the deck!

usually i set up a long folding table in my living room to accomodate everyone. we make it work.

I have a cape too -- but we have a dining room extension which helps a lot. Even so, what we tend to do is put the food out buffet style on the kitchen table and then rearrange furniture in the living room for the most amount of seats. We also finished the basement 2 years ago which helps too....

Re: If you have a small house........

Our house is tiny (2 bedroom, less than 1000 sq ft) so I never host because we dont have a formal dining room (giant living room that leads right into the kitchen). My friends want to come over for dinner sometimes but I always make excuses because its a pain to move the kitchen furniture around to make extra space for more people.Chat Icon

I have a bitty little house - no formal dining room. I loooove hosting anyway! I don't do formal sit down dinners - but I do buffet style stuff and people DO go outside and take advantage of the fire pit.

Last year at Christmas Eve we had snowball fights. It was pretty fabulous.

Re: If you have a small house........

I have a tiny home too, small living room & a tiny dinning that that opens into the kitchen. I'm not a fan of hosting big dinners b/c of this. Its hard to get up a move when there are a bunch (6 +) in the dinning room. We are hosting Thanksgiving this year and in total its going to be 6 or 7 adults and 3 kids.

I anticipate it being tight but I'm sure we will find a way of being comfy. It will help that the kids are going to sit at their own table and then move to the living room to watch TV while the adults are around the table.

I don't have a ton of space but we host anyway. We shuffle around and make it work. We love hosting so space or not space it wont stop us.
