question for the germaphobes...re: bath mat

What do you have and how do you maintain it?

We tried a wooded mat, but DH is 6-2 and 220 lbs and felt like it was cracking when he stepped on it. So that is out.

I usually wash ours once a week (we have 2 that I rotate)

In the shower or out?

We dont have one in. I have a small towel and a few mismatched ones I use for outside. They get changed every two days. Bleached and returned.

If you mean inside, we have a rubber one that's clear. Every week or two, I toss it in the laundry with the whites & the shower curtain liners and bleach it.

Also, I lift it after each use and hang it over the side of the tub so no water gets trapped underneath.

For outside the bath we have 2 & wash them once a week & rotate. We also hang it up on the curatin rood to dry & so we are not stepping on it with shoes.

For inside, we have a rubbermaid one--they always drive me crazy. I pull it it up so water isn't trapped under it, and I bleach it, but tgey still have to be replaced frequently.

thank you...that's what I have been doing. I'm talking about outside the shower. I have white ones so I can bleach them and I hang them on the tub when we aren't using them.

I just don't do whites more than once a week...Do you think a lot of germs/bacteria grow on them in the week? Maybe I should get 4 and then replace every third day?

We have two mats and I wash them on the weekend so they get cleaned once a week. I honestly didn't think too much about it!

I recommend getting more, I own three and I do whites once every 3 days. Plus I also have the small towels and I swap them out after everyone showers.

You don't want to know how often I do mineChat Icon . But, when I do get around to washing them, they get put in the machine by themselves, maybe some cleaning rags too. I don't like washing them with other things.

Yes I do! Do you do them everyday? Every shower?

I always have a towel load...would you rather wash in a towel load or a white bleach?

i used to have mats with the rubber on the bottom but i hated washing them. i have towels that are mats and wash them once a week. i hang it on the side of the tub when not showering because i dont like when people step on them in their shoes.

I dont use one at all. I cant stand a damp mat under my feet. I use 2 towels with every shower. 1 for the floor to step on and 1 for me.

I usually throw mine in the washer and dryer every week or so, usually when I mop. They come out fine.

we have wood floors in one bathroom, so that mat gets hung on a towel rack to dry after every use, washed every few days roughly (we don't shower in this bathroom daily)
Mats in our master bathroom get washed every couple of days when I wash towels.

don't feel bad
um.. i don't think i've ever washed my bath mat. It gets shaken out and vacuumed every week, but unless something other than water was spilled on it, i see no need to wash it
the germ police will be knocking on my door soon i guess! Chat Icon
