Which doctor

Hi ladies. I have a couple of questions about getting blood work done.

1- Who should do the bloodwork. Your gyno or an RE?? If an RE, when where you referred to one and by who??

2- Do most insurance companies cover bloodwork and any ttc tests, meds, etc??

I ask bc I made an appt. w/ my gyno the other day (My Dh and I have been trying on and off since March) My periods have been soooo different each month since we started TTC (and i was always very regular before TTC). Bc of this, I went in for a checkup over the summer and she said to make an appt with her after the summer and we can talk about what steps to take next if I'm not pregnant by then. So fast forward to this week, I go in for my appt. and she tells me that I shouldnt be worried about ttc bc only 15% of couples conceive within the 1st year of ttc. She said she didnt want to do any bloodwork or any kind of tests until after we've been trying for 1 year minimum. When I left the appt. I was so annoyed. She tells me to make an appt after the summer and then says this to me. In addition to this, her office tells me that if I want "planned parenthood" (as they put it) no insurance covers this. WTH are they talking about? Getting bloodwork done is considered "planned parenthood"?? I have to call the office now to clarify all of this but I wanted to ask you ladies for any info that you may have on this matter. Any help is appreciated. TIA

My gyno did bloodwork for me after only a few months of trying because I wasn't getting + OPKs. After she did the bloodwork, I got my first + OPK. However, by then we had DH tested and he actually has MF problems.

I'm SO glad we tested sooner than later so we can see a specialist because it's slow going. He spent months getting tested and we're still trying to figure out if it's correctable and what our next steps can be.

I havent tried OPK's or anything, we've just been trying to BD every other day from CD 10 until CD 24. Bc of our work schedules, it's difficult to follow through with this every month though. Anyway, last month I decided to start temping and I saw my temp drop drastically on CD 15 and then rise (so I assume that means I'm ovulating) I have a 28-30 day cycle. Over the summer my gyno gave me a referral for DH to have a SA. DH went and the urologist said everything is fine and he is very healthy. I'm just a little shocked that my gyno really doesnt want to do blood work yet. I'm so frustrated. Chat Icon

Re: Which doctor

I would suggest finding a new gyn...my gyn performed all the tests I had asked for like hormonal, glucose tolerance, SA and HSG even before I saw a RE. I would check your insurance to see what is covered but I would think basic testosterone, estrogen, etc...would be covered.

Good luck

Thank you! And I've been seriously thinking about looking for a new gyno, but I'm a little hesitant bc I've been going there for a while and she knows my history. At the same time, if she's going to brush off my concerns then it may be time to find another. Chat Icon

Re: Which doctor

i would try some opks's and bd in a row the days where u r close to ovulation as opposed to every other day

u could be missing your window if u were on a off day and then could not for a reason the next, kwim?

if u think something is wrong go with your gut and have sometesting done even if it means a new doc

it is true most couples take up to a year to concieve and that is why most docs wont see you before

but if you want it done it will be done by a doc

i have had a bunch of tests done over almost 2 years and they have ben covered..i would call ur ins compnay and see your benefits

good luck!Chat Icon
