Can you get an IUI without drugs?
I am wondering if you need to take drugs with an IUI? If you get positive OPK's can you just try to ovulate on your own, then get one done? Also, I wonder why am IUI works whereas BDing doesn't (if the woman ovulates and uses OPKs).

Re: Can you get an IUI without drugs?
I think with an IUI the best possible sperm are used... i could be wrong though.... i think thats why your chances would go up... as long as your moitored and your follie is big eough i dont see why it cant be done without drugs

It can be done without drugs but does not up the chances much. All it does it get the timing close to perfect but even then the chances are not amazing.

You don't need to do a medicated IUI if you ovulate naturally.
An IUI increases your chances over because it puts the sperm directly where it needs to be. It bypasses any issues with cervical mucous.. .and the sperm are right where they need to be so it helps also if there are some male factor issues.

question: do only RE's perform IUI's? Or do regular OB's perform them too ?

My gyn said they do IUI's but I would rather an RE do it especially with the availability of and RE over a gyn.
I am doing an unmedicated IUI (probably) with clomid.

If you're using Clomid, it's medicated
To answer the other question .. some OBs do IUIs but if you're going to go that route it's better to see an RE who really specializes in infertility.

thank you. another question..... do RE's take insurance for visits ? blood work? and obv an IUI depends upon your own insurance I suppose.

Yes it depends on your individual insurance on whats covered. I have to pay a copay each time I go in for bloodwork and sonos, and the office will tell you what is covered specifically for your plan when it comes to IUIs, etc... good luck!
