Pregnant Moms who have a toddler at home...
Do you still pick up the toddler now that you are pregnant?
I babysit full-time for a 3 year old. She went to the dr last week and weighed 35 lbs. I have been lifting her all along, so I didn't stop when I got pregnant. I remembered the advice that you could continue doing something that you had been doing before the pregnancy.
Over the last few weeks she has gotten VERY heavy! I don't think it is that her weight has really changed all that much. It just seems like so much work to pick her up though...maybe because of my growing belly, I don't know!
I guess when I go for my 20 week checkup I should ask if I should still be lifting her. Will there be a point where I should stop lifting her? And is it safe to still be doing so now!
Looking for some advice and also what everyone else is doing who has a toddler/young child in the house!

My DD is 15 months and she is getting very heavy. I do carry her so I asked my doctor and she said to try to sit down first and then pick her up that way rather than bend down completely to pick her up.

I still pick up my son- I have not stopped or slowed down at all. He's such a cuddlemonkey, I can't help myself!!
You can't do any harm to the baby by lifting heavy things/people. The only potential problem with lifting, especially as you get bigger, is that you could hurt yourself (mostly your back) IF you don't lift properly. As you said, if it is something you are used to doing from pre-pregnancy, you will be fine as long as you do it properly. When you lift, make sure to bend your legs, and lift mostly from your arms and legs. Make sure to keep your back straight and try not to let the brunt of the weight be carried by your back. HTH!

My DS is 22 months and about 23 lbs and I still lift him. I don't really have a choice in the matter.

I was lifting my toddler throughout my whole 2nd pregnancy. Plus we are on the 2nd floor of an apt building so I had to carry her and bags up and down 3 flights of stairs too

my DD is a chunker at 35lbs, she's all muscle. i've stopped picking her up for the most part, only when she really needs to (she gets hurt, etc.) i'm starting to get a sore back from regular day to day activities, picking her up all the time like normal would make it worse

DS is 19 months and 26 lbs. I still pick him up, but I do it less often because my back hurts a lot.

Ds is 14 months and I still pick him up. I couldn't see myself not picking him up. My dr never said anything to me.

Sasha is 31lbs and I lift her all the time-- in some cases I need to, but other times she just wants me to pick her up... There are days where I feel like I am doing too much, and others when it doesn't bother me. You gotta just do what feels comfortable for your body.
