What? Luteal Phase conflicting info. UPDATE...

I just spoke to my gyno, who I love and respect. She just told me that all women's luteal phases are 14 days. Always! Hold the phone. According to my opk's my luteal phase is 11 days. She says my opk's are wrong. Has anyone else's doctor told them this.

Update: I finally saw my RE and she confirmed that every single thing my gyno said to me is wrong. Unbelievable. My RE said that there is nothing wrong with me at all (contrary to what the gyno said to me). She did an ultrasound and said I have a big follicle waiting...

Anyway, here are a few tips she did say, which are helpful:

1. She said to abstain from sex before your positive OPK happens. I know everyone does the every other day beforehand and it obviously works for many, but she just said a man needs 2 - 5 days of abstinence to really build up strong semen.

2. Even a 15 year old has a 25 percent chance of getting pregnant with each cycle, so if you are in your 30's like me, it's gonna be even tougher.

3. a lutual phase 14 days is normal and so is 10 or 11.

I know these things seem obvious, but they helped me and made me feel good. She said if I don't get pregnant after a year, she'll give me medicine to release more than 1 egg, but she truly believes I will within the year.

I am not a doctor, but as a general rule I don't believe when people say ALWAYS. I have read that whatever yours is, it is unlikely for it to change significantly.

ITA! There is no ALWAYS when it comes to a woman's body. Sorry but I think that doctor is misinformed (in my opnion, and NO I do not hold a medical degree)

ITA, not ALWAYS, i read in TCOYF that generally LP's are 12 - 16 days but sometimes they are less (mine have changed too, one month i had an 11 day LP, next month it was 12)

Isn't this crazy? How could digital opk's and my fertility monitor be wrong? Yet, she is very smart. How could she be wrong? This is too stressful.

Re: What? Luteal Phase conflicting info.

yeah that is definitely not true! Mine is 12 days and i know that for sure. That to me is like saying every woman has a 28 day cycle....which we all know isnt true. Chat Icon

but your opks don't tell you exactly when you're ovulating, right? so your LP might be 14 days. Regardless, I agree with the others, it can range around 14, different for everyone.

I don't understand that statement because it is known that women who have a short Luteal Phase (less than 10 days) could have issues conceiving.

Re: What? Luteal Phase conflicting info.

I can totally relate. I have a gyn who is highly regarded in the industry and was even recommended by NY mag many years in a row. I trust and respect him in every aspect except LP. He too told me that it's a fact. You get AF 14 days after you O.

I thought it was the weirdest thing to be debating with a doctor but what do I know.
Turned out he was right about me though.. my lp is not short like I thought it was. It's just that my temp doesnt rise for 2-sometimes 3 days after I O (i confirmed this when I started seeing an RE and was being monitored with sonograms)

SO I stopped arguing with him about it. Don't know what other girls situatioons are though.

If you are otherwise comfortable with this dr, I wouldn't jump t switching again,
HTH!

Re: What? Luteal Phase conflicting info. UPDATE...

Glad to see you got a "real" answer. Your OB is clueless which is very scary if it was my OB. Because any Dr. who gives me such wrong information worries me about what else they will tell me later on that is ALSO wrong.

I am happy you got accurate information. I have been doing "Deanna's Plan"....little concerned that my DH should be saving up his little guys until positive opk now. So confusing!!!
