Help!! Positive for MTHFR C677t & A1298c and ANA
Hi Everyone, If anyone wants to share any personal experience PLEASE feel free!!!
I’m new to the board and need help/advice!!!! I just tested positive for one copy of the C677t mutation and one copy of the A1298c mutation (MTHFR). And positive for ANA (1:160)
Can ANYONE PLEASE shed some light on any of this??? Does anyone have any of these mutations???? How is your Dr treating this? And are any of you pregnant with these mutations??
Any advise/input will be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thank you Everyone.

Re: Help!! Positive for MTHFR C677t & A1298c and ANA
These are very common issues and women on this board get pregnant all the time with these issues, plus way more. I have two copies of MTHFR, ANA, and mannnnnnnny more immune/clotting and genetic issues I'm taking Metanx, Lovenox (twice a day after transfer and throughout pregnancy), and baby aspirin. (although the protocol will be different for everyone.. like I said, I'm dealing with a complicated combo)

Re: Help!! Positive for MTHFR C677t & A1298c and ANA
I have the same MTHFR mutation...it is called being compound heterozygous. We have one copy of each mutation. It is thought to be the second most serious of the MTHFR mutations with having two C mutations being the most serious. It is commonly treated with baby aspirin, Folgard or Metnax which contains 2.2 grams of folic acid and additional vitamins B6 and B 12. You may also want to switch to a pre-natal such as Neevo which helps to process folic acid better as this is the issue with having MTHFR. I am actually taking Lovenox and intralipids too this cycle after to help with both the MTHFR and immune issues. Because you also have Ana issues..you will likely be put on both Lovenox and intralipids or IVIG.
I would suggest that you join both the MTHFR and Reproductive Immunology groups at yahoo. A wealth of inforantion can be found there.

Re: Help!! Positive for MTHFR C677t & A1298c and ANA
I have 2 copies of MTHFR c677T which I have read is similar to you having the two different ones. This can make your blood a little more sticky and prone to clotting. I also had high ANA-mine was 1:320. I took:
Lovenox Vitamin E Baby Asprin Prednisone-for the 1st 16 weeks of pregnancy Progesterone which can be an immune moderator
I had healthy twin boys through IVF who are almost 3

Thank you everyone for your help/insight. My head is still spinning... with all info... All of this boggles my mind since i was able to have an excellent pregnancy and a healthy baby boy (now a 2 1/2 year old)...
Now I'm just waiting on my/husbands genetic screening results. And going to a Rheumatologist to get blood work done....
Thank you ladies...

I had an uncomplicated pregnancy and a healthy baby with no treatment at all and I'm homozygous for the C mutation. Have you had your homocysteine levels checked? They should also be checked when you get pregnant.

I'm not currently on Lovenox but would be if I got pregnant, along with progesterone. I'm currently on baby aspirin and Folgard (a prescription vitamin that has lots of extra folic acid and helps b/c the MTHFR affects how you process folate). I would definitely bring up any meds that you are on to your Dr.

I have a copy of A and C too.
I was told baby aspirin and metnax for life. Also I was told somethign where metnax has "active ingredients", and other vitamins like folgard has "inactive" which doesn't work as well.
I was told lovenox was "too agressive" for me and have been doing intralipids.

SO- is baby aspirin not strong enough for a blood thinner that you and others had to go on intralipids or Lovenox ???

I forgot to mention I take a prenatal too. Clomid for clotting issues or something else? I've never heard of it for clotting but I'm new to all of this too.

Re: Help!! Positive for MTHFR C677t & A1298c and ANA
I have two copies of C and I have been following the same protocol as the above posters.
As a side note, it makes me nervous that the doctors say to take metanx for life because I had been on it since August of 2010 and when I got pregnant and started seeing a peri, he tested my B12 levels. My levels were VERY high. He took me off of the metanx for a month and retested and they were back within normal range. I am back on it now, but I won't be so quick to continue it when I'm not pregnant. I feel like all of these supplements really need to be monitored. It's dangerous to have the levels get so high and I had no idea. I sometimes feel like we are over prescribed meds, but I'm not taking any chances right now.

I guess baby aspirin was strong enough for me because he said I didn't need lovenox, and the intralipids weren't for MTHFR, but I believe for NK cells.

My Dr. wants me to on Clomid to regulate my cycles (well a better way to ovulate on demand..lol)
