Re: WWYD - Not bothering with a Fakey Name
Personally I would do the reversal first. Depending on what IVF protocal you will be on, it can take sometime before getting to the stage of retrieval/fertilization (depending on how long you will need be on stims, or if BCP will be used). So when you get to that stage, your husband will have had sometime to generate sperm, get a SA and then you can move foward. Has your RE recommended a protocal, that might help you get a better time frame. HTH

Re: WWYD - Not bothering with a Fakey Name
Tough call my initial reaction us to go straight to ivf, my reason being to know if there is any sperm or not. It would frustrate me know knowing if I wasn't getting pg bc I just wasn't yet or bc there is no sperm and no chance. Good luck with your decision
I know nothing about those procedures but if you decide to go in to see if there is sperm is there any way they can also reverse at the same time?

I will say IVF reason....your insurance(if you have) should cover it. Almost all don't cover reversals (tubal or vasectomy) which can be very costly(my tubes are tied just had a ivf cycle) and if I wanted a reversal I was looking at close to 15,000.

I would go straight to IVF, because what if his sperm count is very low bc of the chemo, so you do the reversal and open him up and there is some but not much, then you'd mostly likely have to go IVF anyway.
Also do the Dr.'s estimate IF there is no sperm how long it will take to come back, years? And what if it doesn't?

Re: WWYD - Not bothering with a Fakey Name
Has he tried taking supplements that could possibly help increase seprm count. I know a women on here placed her husband on supplements and it helped increase his numbers. It might be worth starting now, so it gives him time to increase his count. It is not an exact science, but it might be worth a shot. GL!

I agree. You do a reversal which is costly and have to wait. Best case scenario you get pregnant right away...worst case you have to do IVF after paying for the reversal. If your insurance covers IVF I would do that first. Good Luck

Re: WWYD - Not bothering with a Fakey Name
Personally, I'd try every avenue. Meaning, get the reversal and see if he is producing any sperm.
If he's not, there are medications (Clomid, surprisingly) that can help to trigger sperm production again. It will take 3 months, though, to know if he'll produce and to let them mature enough to be "usable."

Re: WWYD - Not bothering with a Fakey Name
My husband had a vasectomy and a reversal. It did not work. My doctor did a little procedure for around $1500.00 and got sperm from him. They froze the rest. It was much cheaper and less painful than the reversal. (This was 12 years ago) I did one cycle of IVF, it failed. The 2nd time we did Zift (eggs are put back in tubes), I got pregnant and delivered a healthy baby boy. Who is now 12! I am now wanting to have another baby, we are starting the process over again...just had failed IVF....saving $$$ to go to round 2 of ZIFT. Good luck, FM if you want to chat! Debbie

Re: WWYD - Not bothering with a Fakey Name
Reversals are usually not successful from what I know. Also, I am confused...a vasectomy doesen't stop the production of sperm, it stops the flow of it KWIM? So if it were me...I would go straight to IVF. Instead of taking the sperm the "normal"way, They will do it with a needle. My friends husband had to do it this way for the same reason and they were successful through IVF.
You can do a google search for vitamins, the info is readily available. You could also look into acupuncture. It may even help with some of his health issues
