Breast pump & insurance
Does anyone know if the Empire Plan (The NY Govt plan) covers a breast pump?
How do I find out if my insurance will cover a breast pump? Just call them directly?
TIA!!!! I'm so clueless!!!!

Yes you call them directly and ask. If it is covered they will give you a list of medical supply companies you need to use to order the pump.

try calling edgepark... when i called my insurance company they said it wasn't covered but when edgepark submitted a claim they were able to get it covered directly

I heard a rumor that they will be covering them in 2012 but I'm not sure if that's true. I have the same insurance and I'm due in Jan so I plan to call or try then.
ETA: In the meantime, I have added the $35 manual breast pump to my registry just in case...

The weird thing with them is that my insurance said the pump was covered 100 percent yet edgepark billed them under respiratory/oxygen equipment. They would have gotten more money if they billed it under the breast pump. I wonder if that's why people are getting them covered when their insurance company says they are not covered.

Edgepark and my insurance (Empire) both just told me that the breast pump is not covered. Has anyone had them cover it recently?

Yes, I have empire PPO and it was covered last month. It depends on the coverage set up by your employer.

I don't think it matters, I would think if they say it's not covered then it won't be. Mine was covered before or after the baby would be born. You could always call back just to make sure.
