Liking a name that EVERYONE else does

I like the name Jackson, A LOT. I really wanted to name DS #1 Jackson but we decided on Mason instead because everyone was naming their kid Jackson. Well that backfired because after Kourtney Kardashian named her son Mason, the name took off and now everyone has that name. I named him Mason because I collect antique Mason jars, have been for years and just loved the name. Now I am pregnant with DS #2 and I keep coming back to Jackson, I don't like anything else. I have loved it since I was little. A lot of little boys in South have this name (I grew up in the South) and have always loved the name. DH thinks that we shouldn't name him Jackson because all the little boys when he goes to school are going to have the same name.

Has this happened to anyone else? You love a name for years and then it becomes popular and it just doesn't have the same appeal anymore... like you just don't want to share lol

I really love the name Jack. It's one of the top contenders. I also am worried about everyone and their mama picking that name. Honestly though, since I really like the name we might just use it. It's going to be a game day decision since we finally have two names picked out for both sexes. Or at least we do at this exact moment.

I agree with you. There was a name I really liked and wanted to use it to name our second DC if it was a boy but, half our neighborhood has the name now and good friends of ours just used it anyway.

I like Jack too but, friends of ours used it recently.

Weve decided to use the name Aiden for our I know that name is really popular now. But me and my dh really love it. I know by the time he goes to school there will be 100 Aidens in his class just like for me going to school there were a million Jennifer's. I got over it though LOL

I personally did not want to do a very popular name, and for DD-- I chose a name that wasn't unique per se, but wasn't popular. It was like number 300 on the pop baby names list.

Well, here I am now almost 3 years later, living in the town where she'll go to school-- and I feel like there are Sasha's all over the place!

So, in my experience-- you can't win!

Do a name you love-- btw, my 7 week old nephew is Jackson. It's such a cute name!

I'm using a top 5 name. My name was in the top 5 and so was my husband's and it never bothered us. I say go for it!

I named dd Emily and it was number 7, and I really struggled with it but in the end it was the name I loved so I went with it. Truthfully I haven't run into any other Emilys her age and its her name now so I don't care. If dc2 is a boy I like a name that is also in the top 15 and I'm not going to stress over it.

I hate to compare it to buying a car but it's like you never see a Green Jeep on the road until you buy one! You never hear the baby's name until you name your child that name! It's just the way it goes!!

Honestly, I love the name Jackson too! But my moms dog was named Jackson.

While it's super popular in the south. I don't think it is as much up here. I don't think you will have to worry about having A LOT of Jackson's around. I say go for it!

We loved the name Emily and knew that was what we needed to name our DD the minute she was born. The name has fit her so well. It was the #1 name for quite a few years in a row there but she hasn't had another Emily in any of her classes out of 4 years in school. She has had an Emily in dance class, and one on the bus, but she was more excited to have another Emily for a friend then anything else.

Honstly I don't think Jackson is all that much of an over-common name. I see a lot more James' and Michaels then Jackson. I think it's a great choice!
