Can anyone teach me about fish please?
I have gone back and forth between vegetarian-vegan-pescetarian for pretty much my whole life. I am thinking about adding fish back in to my diet again. I have eaten fish before, but only tuna (from a can), or when someone else prepares it for me. So I have no idea what to do Can anyone give me advice as to:
~What kind of fish do you buy that is not very "fishy" tasting?
~Where do you buy your fish? Supermarket? Or do you go to a fish market?
~an easy way to prepare it. Is there any way to prepare it that WON'T smell up my house?
~anything else that is important to know about fish??
Sorry, I know these are probably dumb questions

Re: Can anyone teach me about fish please?
We stick with mild fish... Tilapia, mahi mahi, flounder, sole and other seafood like shrimp, scallops, crab, clams and lobster. We are starting to acquire a taste for salmon now.
Most of our fish I buy fresh or frozen from BJ's and the fish store. I just bough fresh tilapia from stop and shop last week and it was super fresh and delish.
Honestly, it never smells up my house when I cook it. You can bake it with garlic and breakcrumbs and seasoing, put some butter and wine in the bottom of the dish. We love grilling tilapia (I brush with EVOO and them spinkle with old bay seasoning and cajun seasoning). I make packets with mahi mahi with veggies, garic, oil, lemon and wine and either back or grill it. I use mahi and tilapia for fish tacos too!

Re: Can anyone teach me about fish please?
I started DS on scallops - I breaded them and called it "fish nuggets".
Then we moved on to baked scallops, fried/breaded tilapia/cod. He wanted to try salmon so we did - I'm not a huge fan of salmon.
I did buy too much salmon the first time so I made salmon burgers and they were GREAT. Now, I get enough for 2 meals.
For breaded/fried white fish, I use breadcrumbs seasoned w/ S&P, garlic powder and sprinkle the fish w/ old bay.
For baked, I sprinkle fish w/ old bay, then add lemon zest and juice and some capers and bake.
If you bake the breaded fish it will smell less then if you fry. I also buy my fish at the supermarket.

Fish shouldn't smell if it's fresh when you cook it. Wherever you buy fish, make sure its as fresh as possible.

I love cajun catfish in the pan. Make red beans and rice with it and brussels. Yum!

Re: Can anyone teach me about fish please?
lately my favorite way to cook fish is dipping it in olive oil and lemon juice then lightly coating it in breadcrumbs and baking it at 400 degrees for 10 min.
so moist, tasty and easy!
