lovenox help please

Chat Icon found out today that i need lovenox if this baby is gonna make it. apparently my mthfr and perhaps another clotting disorder that they are testing for is attacking my placenta. i am 11 weeks and saw kofinas today just as a double check never thinking anything was wrong so this was a shock!
he is starting me on 60 of generic lovenox tomorrow in hopes it can stop the issue and help the placenta grow stronger. no clots or hematomas...he just said there is damage.. ughs.

so any tips side effects anything i should know from personal experience? ty v much!

Re: lovenox help please

Dr. B had me on 40mg and my first vist to Dr. Kofinas at 5wks 3 days upped me to 80 mg as a precaution. Dr. Kofinas has done extensive research on clotting disorders and you are in good hands. I have found his website helpful.

Don't worry, he will help you

Re: lovenox help please

I take it every morning. I usually ice the area, squeeze the skin and then go slowly. I have also started to ice the area after I give myself the shot too. It lessens the bruising. Many people have different views as to whether to ice or squeeze but after doing lovenox since May when I got my positive beta this is what I find works for me. Ill be on it my whole pregnancy.

squeeze the skin, and after the needle is in the skin, while you're injecting as SLOW as possible, let go of the skin.
inject it reallly slow!!!!
i would ice it before and sometimes after.
did i mention to go slow?

Kofinas is amazing. However, he does put everyone on Lovenox. I am certain all of that Lovenox made my daughter extra smart!

Don't stress!! I remember leaving my first appt with Dr kofinas terrified!! I had the same issues with the placenta. I slowly learned dr kofinas is just extra carefull. Dr kofinas is an amazing doctor who is making sure he is EVERYTHING to ensure you have a perfectly healthy baby.

The lovenox isn't bad at all :) you will get used to it. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: lovenox help please

i had to do lovenox throughout my pregnancy. i ended up with pre-eclampsia in the end which was likely caused by my blood clotting issue which eventually caused IUGR and placental disease. i delivered at 33w after developing HELLP syndrome, also likely related to the clotting issue and the switch from lovenox to heparin while on hospital bedrest. i did not see kofinas or any other high risk dr., despite doing IVF. any future pregnancies i will absolutely see kofinas. thankfully my Chat Icon did well despite being 7w early and spending a month in the NICU.

Re: lovenox help please

No need to worry. I was on Lovenox my last 2 pregnancies and will be on it again during my next due to history of blood clots (had one in 2002) and a fetal demise due to clotting factor less than a year later(during that pregnancy wasn't on lovenox). The injections aren't bad you can do them yourself(in the thighs). Your blood needs to flow through the placenta and lovenox is the best way to do it. Is he going to switch to Heparin at 34 weeks or Lovenox straight threw??

Re: lovenox help please

Dr. B put me on Lovenox about 6 weeks in. And I was also on baby asprin. Stayed on the 60mg Lovenox the whole time, stopped the baby asprin when I had a placenta previa that was bleeding about 19 weeks. I was watched very closely for pre-eclampsia as there is some correlation between placenta issues and pre-e. I delivered at 37 weeks just as the pre-e was setting in and baby was fine! Hang in there, you'll get to breathe again soon!!

They'll probably switch you to heparin towards the end of your pg bc it leaves the body quicker and u can't deliver with it in ur system. But no biggie, youll cross that bridge when you get to it. And you will get to it!! Chat Icon Chat Icon
