so....Boston..what do you rec to do there!?!?!? =)
My darling ( ) Husband just "realized" that he still has 3 weeks vacations that he HAS to use before the end of the year and that is NOT including the 4 days he is forced to take between Christmas and New Years!
He does this to me EVERY year..it is like he is afraid to use them all throughout the year ..like he is going to run out!
Anyway...(sorry I had to vent before my question)
I have always wanted to do both Mystic and Boston..Now I am DEF making him do one! I would love to fly somewhere...but We are kinda on a tight budget these days - so I guess driving would make more sense =(
Anyone been to one or both and recommend either - OR SOMEWHERE ELSE - which has more to do esp with a 4 yr old DD and an almost 3 yr old DS and a 7 mo old mommy
Thanks for any reccs for things to do and places to stay!

Re: Mystic or Boston?!?!
We went to Boston this year, and I loved it..there is so, so much to do, and if we had the time I would have loved to take a side trip to Salem
I have a review here:

Re: Mystic or Boston?!?!
Love Boston, only passed through Mystic and another suggestion I have is Newport RI.
None of these places are really kiddie though you can find things for kids. If you are looking for a kiddie place, you could still do Hershey.
Another suggestion, but you would have to move ASAP is Salem Mass for Halloween, but it's likely all booked up now locally.
OH and another suggestion...Lake George is beautiful around this time of year. This is probably the more kid friendly place (besides Hershey).

Re: Mystic or Boston?!?!
Ok...so by the looks of some quick researching..I agree with you ladies...seems like anything I could do in Mystic, I can do that and more in Boston!
But I was only there once and it was for a couple of hrs at a crew event in college...So I have NO CLUE what there is to do there!
Some things I am looking at is:
-Whale watching -Aquarium -Hop-on-hop-off bus tour
Any reccs as to what to do in Boston!
Thanks!

omg - 2 times i wrote something out and it got deleted. abbreviated version! I used to live there - so feel free to FM with questions. -Cambridge (college tours - Harvard, MIT). Also gret food and shopping (Tommy Doyles, Charlies Kicthen, Mr. Bartleys, Grafton Street) -Faneiul Hall/Quincy Market - good shopping people watching, lunch, seafood - don't go after 9 unless you want to party with underage kids -Newbury Street - great shopping and bars -Prudential Center - great views up top. but crappy food. go for drinks, not dinner -North end - (think little italy) - We love the restaurant Carmen (www.carmenboston.com) -Beacon Hill - see how the better half live. Cheers is there-ish. Absolutely beautiful. Check out the park -Duck tour is cool and fun for kids

I second the above list and will add Museum of Science. It's huge and awesome.
If you're up for a day trip and the weather is still nice, take a drive up to Crane's Castle http://www.thetrustees.org/places-to-visit/northeast-ma/castle-hill-on-the-crane.html the place has a breathtaking view of the ocean when you stand at the top and look down the rolling hills. Late lunch at Woodman's in Essex http://www.woodmans.com/ Not sure about their winter hours though.
Having lived in the Salem area, I won't go near there at Halloween time. Any other time? So much fun, great little shops and stuff.
Take the harbor cruises out of Long Wharf/Aquarium. Again, weather dependent but if you can get off at George's island. It's an old civil war fort, very cool to explore the island.
Take a walk along the Charles River, hit up the esplanade. It's a great walk, beautiful view.
Head up to the Stone Zoo in Stoneham (if it's open) It's smaller and better for the younger kids than Franklin Park Zoo
Arnold Arboretum is beautiful too, it's part of the Emerald Necklace, which is also Boston Public Gardens and Jamaica Pond.

Re: so....Boston..what do you rec to do there!?!?!? =)
A place to stay I HIGHLY recommend is the Langham. Awesome hotel in a great location. And no matter where you stay check out their chocolate bar at Cafe Fleuri. AMAZING. If you can get reservations I def recommend it.
After that we walked around a bit past the Old State House and Fanuiel Hall,
We did the Ghosts and Graveyards tour. We both thought it was going to be lame but ended up enjoying it alot more than we thought we would. The guides were very funny!!
Lunch at Quincy Market is always a good idea, there is so much too choose from and lost of shopping right there.
We didn't walk the Freedom trail this last time but we did a trolley tour which included the majority of the stops of the Freedom Trail (USS Constitution, Copp's Burial Ground, the Old North Church, Bunker Hill, the State House, Paul Revere's House - which we skipped). Some will also include a harbor cruise which is nice if the weather is agreeable. You get some great views of the city in!
Take a walk through Boston Commons, you can ride the swan boats and it really is a pretty park. And Cheers is right over there and I suggest that one other than the one in Quincy Market. I have also been to the New England Aquarium, The Science Museum, Fenway Park.
And if you are there for a few days doa side trip to Salem. It's a very cool city and I love all the witch stuff
Here's the link to the pics from our most recent trip. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2102867173330.125242.1294984521&type=1&l=3c78aab6a2
