IVF class @ LI IVF
Those of you that had to take the ivf class, can you tell me what to expect?
Are we going to have to talk about ourselves with a group? or is it strickly the nurse teaching/informing us?

Re: IVF class @ LI IVF
It is such a good idea to go. When we went it was just us and another couple, so it was a little more personalized. The nurse never initiated talking about our own struggles, but as she was setting up I started chatting with the other woman and it kind of slowly evolved into a mini-therapy session. But once we done chatting the nurse started the class.
She explained the different types of medicine, injections we would be using, possible side effects, etc. Because it was only us and another couple she was able to talk specifically about the types of meds we would be using. She showed us how to mix the medicine, so instead of doing 4 different shots, I was able to do it all in one. She showed us how to properly fill the syringes, administer and little tricks to make it less painful.
At first DH, thought it would be a total waste of time, being that we were already on day 5 of Lupron injections, he swore he was a pro. But, when we were done he felt better and more confident in adminstering the injections, so he admitted it was a great idea to do it. FM if you have any additional questions. GL!

When we went, there were 5- 6 other couples. I already knew a lot about IVF (from here, google, etc ) but DH really learned a lot. I don't think he realized what a big deal the process was and everything that was involved.
One thing that really got us thinking was when she talked about what happened to frozen embryos if we got divorced, both died....all kinds of situations.
It was helpful.
HTH!

That's right, I forgot about that part. It seemed so cold, the way they were talking about the embies, like property in a sense. Who gets what, what happens if one spouse dies, it was just to business like. We went over the consent form, and figure out what would happen to the remaining embie after we were done. That was tough.

Just curious, how did you find out when the class was? Do they set it up for you before your first IVF?

They will give you a list of dates with classes when you decide to go forward with IVF. They might be waiting for you to get a bit closer, but if you don't hear anything soon, I would call one of the nurses.

We had our first consult and they told us everything we needed to do before we start IVF. We wont be starting until Jan but they said we can go to the class whenever we have time. We are going in Nov. Call them & they will let you know the dates, its on Tuesdays only.
