How much are we spending on groceries these days?
Just wondering!
Last year we were living in NY with my parents so it was a whole different ballgame, buying and cooking for my whole family and Loey wasn't really eating real foods then. We recently moved back to San Diego, so now it's Loey (almost 2), DH, me, and those 2 babies in my belly!
How much is everyone spending on groceries/week?
How many people are eating?
How many meals are made at home?
Where do you shop?
Do you buy organic?
--
For us, it looks like we're spending about $150/week.
It's 2 adults (but I'm pregnant with twins) and 1 child.
We all eat breakfast and dinner at home 7 days/week. We all take our own lunches 5 days/week, eat at home 1 day and then usually takeout for 1 lunch meal/week.
We shop at a combination of Ralphs (like Stop&Shop), Trader Joe's and Whole Foods... with occasional trips to the farmer's market.
We try to do organic where we can, but we've been on a pretty strict budget lately so unfortunately our proteins have really not been organic

Re: How much are we spending on groceries these days?
How much is everyone spending on groceries/week? I'm including diapers, wipes, cleaning stuff, and toiletries in this number. I would say around $150 per week, some weeks are under, some are over. I've done it on $80-100 per week, but it's not pretty. It can be done, though.
How many people are eating? 2 adults and 3 children, but one child eats adult size portions (he's almost 11.)
How many meals are made at home? All of them. Very few exceptions.
Where do you shop? I shop around for the sales. Lately it's been a combo of ShopRite, Pathmark, and Target.
Do you buy organic? No.

Re: How much are we spending on groceries these days?
How much is everyone spending on groceries/week?
We spend roughly $40-60 per week
How many people are eating? 2 adults
How many meals are made at home? Breakfast-always home - usually hard boiled eggs and a banana for DH. For me a muffin or shake both that I make for myself.
Lunch-always from home
Dinner- At least 6 days at home, we rarely eat out or get take out.
Where do you shop? Trader Joe's for bulk of it. Produce from Best Yet, milk & eggs from BJ's or Costco (we buy 2 dozen eggs at a time)
Do you buy organic? Sometimes, it depends on what it is and what sales are going on.

Re: How much are we spending on groceries these days?
We spend about 170-220 depending on the sales.
There are 2 adults and 2 children in my family.. but I almost always have a day or 2 during the week where I find myself watering the soup (so to speak) for unexpected visitors. My 15 year old nephew spends every other weekend with us.
I cook almost every meal for our family - breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. The kids buy lunch from school 2-3 times a week and Rob's boss buys him lunch 1x per week. We also will get bagels for breakfast once a month and will buy breakfast sandwiches maybe once every few months. We eat at my MIL's most Sunday evenings and get invited out to parties or dinner probably 3-4 times a month... although that REALLY slows down in the colder months.
I shop at the farm stand at the corner and the Farmer's Market (until November), Stop & Shop, Best Yet and Cornucopia Natural Foods.
I used to buy a lot more organic when I was working.. but budget cuts have effected the quality of food I buy. I try to buy mostly local, fresh produce. I ALWAYS buy organic milk and almond milk. I get my eggs at the Farmer's Market.. but everything else is what's on sale or reasonably priced.. that means I don't get organic meat or poultry. My BF is a fisherman so we will get fresh fish when it's caught! I make a lot of stuff from scratch so I can at least control what goes into our foods as much as possible.

Re: How much are we spending on groceries these days?
We probably spend about $100-$125 a week on groceries. But including other food (restaurants, alcohol, snacks at work) we spend $500-$650 a month total on food.
That is just for 2 of us.
I usually make breakfast, lunch and dinners. However, once or twice a week DH goes out for lunch and then on weekends, we sometimes go out for both lunches and dinners depending on how busy we are and what is going on.
Our two regular stores are Stop&Shop and Sam's. We also do a monthly trip to Whole Foods.
We don't buy enough organic. We only started getting into it recently and we buy certain items when we can. DH sometimes gets organic coffee and cereal. I buy some organic fruits and vegetables as well as canned beans and canned tomatoes. I really need to start trying to buy organic dairy and meat as I hear that is the most important thing to go organic on, but the choices are expensive and slim.

Re: How much are we spending on groceries these days?
I spend around $80 a week on groceries (that's including diapers and toiletries)
1 -2 adults and 1 toddler
Breakfast I bring to work from home Lunch I bring to work from home Dinner at home 5 nights a week
I shop at Stop & Shop and occassionally Old World (a gourmet market) for some specialty produce, bread, and cheeses.
I don't buy organic.
**I'm about to move in with my BF and I imagine my weekly grocery bill will increase to about $100 per week. Right now I cook for 2 about 2 - 3 times per week, but once we're living together I'll be cooking for 2 adults every night.

Re: How much are we spending on groceries these days?
How much is everyone spending on groceries/week? We spend no more than $90 a week. This includes cleaning supplies, paper towels, and napkins.
How many people are eating? 2
How many meals are made at home? We eat breakfast at home every day. DH buys lunch. I buy lunch maybe 1-2X a week, if at all. We eat dinner at home about 4 nights per week.

Do you buy organic? We don't buy any organic products, unless it's cheaper than the regular product. (I know that's unusual, but one time the organic milk was less expensive than what I usually buy, so I bought the organic one).

Re: How much are we spending on groceries these days?
Just realized who you were since you changed your avitar - I can't believe how big Loey is getting! I always follow your food posts - sorry just had to comment - time does fly!
To answer your question, it is hard to tell because I do a food coop split with my cousin so that is about $25 every other week pre-paid. I did a HUGE shop and stocked up on antibiotic free meats and household cleaners, etc. at BJ's for about $300 a month ago and expect that to last me awhile. I typically still spend between $100 - $150 a week at the store but go 3 out of 4 weeks a month on average. DH and I tend to buy beer at the store so that adds to it.
So I guess if you add that all in, I would say $75 of the BJ's shop + $50 coop + $400 store = $525 per month for just me and DH.
We eat almost all organic, antibiotic free, etc. I love to cook so I am always stocking up on ingredients and a full pantry/freezer makes me happy.
We eat 5-6 dinners per week at home, all breakfasts and prob 6 lunches. I also pay for my household cleaning products (and tp, paper towels, etc.) and cat food/litter in this amount.

Re: How much are we spending on groceries these days?
I would say we average about $200 a week. Just groceries - I'm not including going out at all. I shop mostly at Stop & Shop, but also go to Trader Joes about once a month and Costco once a month.
We are two adults and two toddlers.
Breakfast - the kids and I always eat at home. DH buys breakfast once or twice a week on his way to work. We go to the diner every other week for breakfast.
Lunch - the kids and I always eat at home (or I provide their daycare meals). DH buys lunch 5 days a week. Once a week I usually take the kids somewhere for lunch.
Dinner - The four of us have home-cooked meals 6 nights a week, once a week we go out or get takeout.
About 50% of the produce/dairy I buy is organic. Maybe 25% of the meat. I only buy organic meat when it's on sale.
ETA milk and eggs are always organic. Not always organic cheese or yogurt though.
