What do I need for breastfeeding?
I have a pump, some storage bags, and the pads to keep from leaking through your shirt on my registry. I also have one of those covers on there. What else do I need?

sorry, couldn't help myself.
You'll need bottles if you plan on leaving the baby for any length of time that you can't feed him.

LOL! That was my first thought! They are pretty much all you need to start. What you have sounds great. Only other thing I would suggest is nipple cream! That can be a real life saver!

Gel soothies!!!!!!! Makes your sore nipples feel so much better! You can put them in the fridge!

Medela makes gel pads an I put them in the freezer and they helped a lot in the beginning with the soreness and pain.

This is what I needed:
I pumped exclusively for the first 2 months... not planned at all, DS tore up my nipples and they hurt SO bad that I just went right to the pump until I grew a deep hatred for the thing and tried BF and it worked for us. Because I pumped so much at first I needed extra valves and membranes to keep up the suction.
The breastshields that came with the Medela pump didn't fit me all the time. (your nipple size changes even throughout the day) so I bought different sizes and even soft shields and was able to switch according to my size at that time. I thought it was just me but I read on here that many moms have the same issue.
I bought a tube of lanolin but the hospital sent me home with so many samples that I didn't even need to ever open the one I bought.
Nursing bras were a must for me. I still BF at 13.5 months and still wear them everyday. Are they sexy.. not at all but highly functional and cheap at Target. Nursing tanks are also a must, for me, for hanging around at home, for hiding the post baby chub under your clothes, and for sleeping in for easy access for baby. Also can be bought at Target and Walmart for mega cheap.
Nursing cover. I had to buy 3 before I found one that I felt covered me enough, that was wide enough and long enough. Balboa Baby was the best for me. I tried Peanut Shell and Bebe Au Lait and Udder Covers. I sold the one, got the other for free and keep the third as a car backup just in case. You can take them out of the box at BRU and try them on so you don't waste money like I did lol.

I'd also get those medela sterilizer bags. I ended up using them for everything-- not just pump stuff.

I agree. I found a nursing pillow very helpful in the beginning. I also loved Earth Momma Angel Nipple butter.

I have been only pumping for the past month bc the girls are too little to BF. I have found lanolin completely invaluable. I line the inside of the shields each time I pump. It really made such a difference in my comfort level.
