BTDT: Kitchen Remodel Advice
For those that have done their kitchen remodel or are in the process, what are some things you've learned that you can pass along to those who are starting out?
I'm the in the process of remodeling my kitchen/bath and here are some things I've learned:
1. Hire an NKBA kitchen designer to redesign your kitchen if you're creating a new layout, otherwise, just take your measurements for the existing layout to an experienced kitchen showroom designer to redesign your kitchen.
2. Get angle power strips under the cabinets so you get sleek seamless look to your tiles/backsplash
3. To save money, if possible, hire the plumber and electrical person separately so it's cheaper. It's somewhat like being your own GC.
4. Get cabinets (a big chunk of your remodel cost) from wholesalers and avoid the big box stores like Lowes or HD. The headache of mismeasurement, delays, upcharges, incompetence from the big box stores are not worth it. You'll be surprised what the big box stores will charge you for things like undermount rails, soft close, etc. that the dealers consider standard. The big box store door/finish choices are also very limited.

we did this 
The extra's that I love (well thing I added at the last minute):
hidden recycling bin/garbage can
spice rack
Pot drawers..so much easier

Can you explain the angle power strips. Never heard of them. Who installs, the electrician? How do they get power?

They are hard wired from a junction box in the wall. They basically are a power strip that is hidden under the upper cabinet so they aren't seen.
The electrican would do this.

The angle power strips are also called plugmolds and can be used underneath the cabinets, hidden by the rails on the bottom of the cabinets. It looks something like this:
And allows your backsplash to have a clean look while hiding the unsightly outlets where you don't typically use them often. For more permanent electrical appliances like coffee makers or toasters that stay in one spot, you might want the regular wall outlet so you dont see the dangling appliance power cord.

or...get matching outlet covers to blend in exactly with the backsplash tile. 
pull outs pantries, panels on end cabinets so that sides look "finished",don't spend the extra money to get a french door fridge that fits flush to cabinets...too small...

Also, we got a wine rack above the fridge.
