Tiny flecks of metal coming out of bathtub spout?

A few days ago I saw a few flecks of metal near the drain in our bathtub after bathing DD and washing out her tub. We have a slow drain so I thought maybe it was debris coming UP from the drain. Yesterday I had filled her infant bathtub with water and was about to put her in when I noticed another fleck of metal in her tub (filled fro the same spout).

Now I'm worried about possible lead. I have heard of 'lead pipes' and I'm wondering if this could mean chips of lead are breaking off when the water goes through. Does anyone know if this is possible? Our house was built in 1978 and I know that's some sort of cut-off for lead, but I'm not sure in what part of the house. I'm nervous to bath DD in there not knowing what it is.

Shiny flakes or dull flakes? Lead would be dull, but chrome is very shiny. Chrome plated fixtures flake off after a while.

DH threw out the piece I was saving, but I think it was shiny on one side. He thought it looked like paint but I don't think it did at all.

Thank you!

I would be concerned too. Even if your home was built in 1978, many pipes have lead sodderings (sp) joining the pipes.

I am not sure what to tell you, but I would definitely look into it and maybe fill her tub another way for now.

From what little info I have, it sounds much more like chrome than lead. Chrome almost always flakes off eventually. It looks a little like paint. It's shiny on one side, but not the other.... lead doesn't act or look that way.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to watch for more and take a loser look at it.
