Re: Hawaii hotel recs
I stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Maui for my HM 5 years ago. It was tired looking and needed a renovation. The Westin next door looked a lot nicer.
in Kauai I also stayed at the Hyatt - AMAZING!!!

Re: Hawaii hotel recs
In Kauai, we stayed at the Marriot. The one close to the airport. This is the one hotel we spent the least amount of time researching and we LOVED it the most. It was also more reasonable than the other two hotels we stayed at. The staff was great, the pool was amazing and the food phenomenal. I did not have one complaint. We stayed at the Hyatt in Maui and we loved it as well. Only thing was part of the pool was under construction and the hotel itself was getting renovated but other than that it was great!

Stayed at the Sheraton in Maui and the beach is SPECTACULAR! They do a ceremony every night at black rock with a lighting of a ceremonial torch and one of the guys dressed in traditional hawaiian gear scales black rock and lights torches along the way and then when he gets to the top, dives off into the water. I loved it there! Plus it was in a pretty good location on the island

We stayed at the Sheraton in Kauai in 2007. We were woken up every morning by roosters crowing at 5 am and found a huge roach in our shower the day we left Additionally the beach and pool were so crowded every day. I wouldn't recommend staying there.

Re: Hawaii hotel recs
I would recommend the Hyatt in Kaui. It was booked up when we went so we stayed at the Marriott. We went to the Hyatt to check out the pool and it was amazing.
The Mariott was awesome too, so I was not disappointed by staying there. It was beautiful and comfortable and had like a private beach area. The beach at the Hyatt is rockier and I'm not sure if you can swim because at least when we were there, the waves were really strong and with the big rocks in the water, it would have been dangerous. But, not sure if it is always like this. The pool is amazing! I have also heard great things about the spa and golfing so even if you don't stay there, it is worth crashing even if its for the afternoon.
Edited to add: the nice thing about the Marriott is it is very close to the airport. If you are starting the trip in Kuai, it makes it easy to be checked in and relaxed quickly after landing. I was really thrown off by the time zones, flights, etc so this was a major plus to me. ALso, they have great restaurants on the property, so especially if you are tired the first day, you don't need to go far to eat. Expect to do quite a bit of driving in hawaii.

Re: Hawaii hotel recs
The Hyatt in Kauai is absolutely incredible. I was there on my honeymoon as were several friends of mine at various other times. We all still talk about going back. Several of them have travelled more extensively than I have and this is the one place they continue to rave about.

Re: Hawaii hotel recs
Stayed at the Grand Hyatt in Kauai 3 times - it is an absolutely AMAZING property! It might be one of my favorite hotels in the world.
DH and I just got back from 10 days in Maui at the Hyatt (our 5th trip there). This property isn't as lush as the one on Kauai (it's a "Regency" rather than a "Grand") but is still very nice.
All of the hotels along Ka'anapali Beach in Maui are a little bit older. The Hyatt is starting to look a little dated, but they are constantly updating it so it's not run down.
The Sheraton sits on the nicest part of the beach, but I'm not a fan of the style (not very Hawaiian looking). They were re-doing all of the rooms while we were there though.
The Westin looks very nice, but I'm not a fan of it's location. It's right next to Whaler's Village (the shopping center in the middle of the hotels), and there were a few people we met who were staying there and said it was a little noisy at night.
The Marriott is a HUGE property and honestly, I'm not a fan of it - it's too spread out.

Re: Hawaii hotel recs
I just got back from Kauai and Maui. The Hyatt in Kauai was AMAZING. I loved everything about it. DH is just as big a fan as I am! The pool was awesome and we could always get chairs poolside. The restaurants were great and the grounds were beautiful.
We also stayed at the Hyatt in Maui and it wasn't as nice. They had tarps up, they plan on starting construction in the near future (they didn't say when) but the rooms, retaurants, pool and hotel grounds were just not as nice as the one in Kauai so we were a little disappointed.
