teachers - a short term disability ?
Just curious if teachers are allowed to file for short term disability?
This question is for my sister - she is 33 weeks and was told by her dr today she can not work anymore.

anyone who works on the books can file. all employers in NYS are required to have a disability policy

Tell her to call her personnel department. I have to be on bed rest from week 28 on and was told I have to start taking my sick days now and when they run out file for long term disability. Every district is different and her personnel office is literally the only reliable source of information she should listen to.

long term won't be approved or paid for until you have maxed out short term which is 26 weeks. your HR dept gave you incorrect info.
And they can't require you to use your sick time, FYI. BUT its probably better to use them because it pays a lot more then what your short term disabilty will.
Also long term dis. is less money then long term
