anyone know if you can purchase short term disability coverage?
instead of just getting what the state pays you?
I'm just thinking- at my job i dont get maternity leave..i'll just have to go out on short term disability. (i'm not pg yet..just thinking ahead)
but i wondered if maybe a company offered that!

For the most part, no, you can't buy an individual short term disability policy on your own. Your job may offer it as part of your benefit package or you may be able to purchase some through AFLAC but you would have to check with your HR department to see if they offer that.

Also...FYI...there's a waiting period before you can get pregnant with AFLAC. I believe it's a year. We decided against it because the monthly payments can get costly, then with the waiting period on top of that.....

There are some people in my office with kids and we have a plan that you can buy individually that is additional short term - (it gets taken out of our pay check pre tax) it isn't much but it is in addition to the short term you would usually get. It does cover maternity leave but you have to buy it before you get pregnant. Depending on how much you make depends on how much it costs.
