Couples Swept Away Jamaica!

I'm back and it was awesome! Everything I expected and more. The resort was beautiful and much bigger than I imagined it would be. I opted for the mid-priced rooms (Ocean Verandah Suite) and it was perfect. The Garden Verandah Suites were the cheapest but they were close to the road. Though even those weren't bad since the foliage is so thick. You always feel like you're some place secluded and tropical. The Beachfront Suites were the most expensive and not worth it IMO. We were only steps away from the beach for a couple hundred dollars cheaper. And our rooms were in an ideal location- directly by the swim-up bar, 2 restaurants, the beach, the bar on the beach, and the casino/disco. The rooms were amazing, too. They were huge and comfortable, each with it's own private balcony. We had a basket of pastries delivered to our room every morning and ate out on the balcony and it was amazing. The food was amazing and plentiful. My favorite restaurant was Lemongrass the Thai food place. That's where we went on DH's birthday. I originally asked about getting him a cake but they said they don't really do cakes for birthdays. Chat Icon Whatever, no big deal, we had already done cake at home. But during dinner, DH got up to use the bathroom and our waitress came over and said she was going to get us a cake and to distract him while she brings it over. Well, she did and he loved it. The beaches were breathtaking. I've never been in water as warm as the water there and I've been to many of the Carribbean islands. It was like stepping into a warm bath. The pool was the same. The beaches were extremely clean, too, which was a nice change from Rockaway. Chat Icon When you're on the beach, however, the locals try to come up and sell you stuff. I mean everything from hair braiding to jet skiing to home made jewelry to every drug you can think of. They were always polite if sometimes pushy, especially about the pot. It got to the point where my friend would throw them off by offering to sell them pot before they could offer us. They always got a good laugh out of that. Chat Icon We did venture right outside the resort via a security guard on the beach. He takes down your names and room numbers when you leave and checks you back in when you come back. We hopped right outside the resort to jet ski and do some souvenir shopping. We did do one other excursion- horseback riding on the beach. It's something I've always wanted to do so we figured this was our chance to do it. What we didn't know was they take the horses out deep into the water to swim with you. It was amazing. you lay down on your stomach on the horses back and swim with him! You just feel their legs churning under you. It's bananas! I haven't gotten my underwater camera developed yet, but I'm dying to see those photos! But, here's some other photos of the resort. If any of you are thinking of going, I highly recommend Swept Away. It's a little more expensive than the other Couples Jamaica locations but totally worth it! Also, this was the perfect time of year to go. The resort was relatively quiet since I guess a lot of people are back in school or have kids back in school. The water was insanely warm. It was a balmy 88 degrees every single day and despite being the rainy season, I believe we had 40 minutes TOTAL of rain the entire week. And even when it was raining, it was so soft and warm that we didn't even get out of the water or pay it any heed.

Was it a certain company that you did the horseback riding with? That sounds amazing! I'm trying to convince dh to do it, but he's scared of getting hurt on the horse...are they calm lol

It was a smaller company just because the company the resort reccommended, Chukka Horseback Ride, was completely booked. The place we went to was a little bit too laid back. Like they didn't ask any of us if we were experienced riders or not. Fortunately, I am an experienced rider because my horse was a bit of a d!ck! He didn't like being in the back of the line so he was biting the horse in front of him. I stopped him as best I could, but he's a horse, it's a little difficult. lol! So I told the guide and they told me to move to the front of the group which made Flash very happy... until the horses got too close to the back of him and he bucked at them. Chat Icon So the guide told me "Don't let him kick the other horses." Well, no kidding! Tell them to not let their horses tailgate. Chat Icon So the guide said that the horse just wants to run and asked me if I was comfortable holding him back and then taking him for a run which I was. It was awesome galloping across the beach! Now, the other place, Chukka is a seriously efficient machine. They do everything from boat tours to snorkeling to horse back riding and ziplining so safety is their name. I guarantee they will match you and your DH with horses at your experience level and nobody will get hurt. Horses are usually really gentle animals, mine just happened to be a jerk. lol! Chat Icon Sorry for writing a novel by the way! Chat Icon

Thanks for the info...I'll definitely look into the other company. I love horses and am totally comfortable, but dh needs a horse you can feel safe putting a child on lol.

Loved Swept Away! We went in March and can't wait to go back! The other couples on the shuttle from the airport had been multiple times (one was up to their 10th time) and keep coming back and now we know why!

We had a Garden Verandah room and we barely noticed the road. Our patio looked into a courtyard with beautiful foliage and we even had a resort cat visit us a couple days - he just lounged on our step, didn't beg for our food or anything. My DD loved seeing the photos of the cat.

There were cats everywhere! I loved it! lol! We were the ONLY couple there for our first time, everybody else on our shuttle were repeat customers, too.

ETA: This is the cat we lovingly named "Pizza" who followed us around the resort everywhere! Every night she'd leap from the bushes and follow us and the day we left she walked with us from our room to the lobby. It was adorable!

Here she is waiting for us outside the casino. I snuck out a different door to take the picture.

DH and I went on our honeymoon 3 years ago and have talked about going back. I remember when we went there were many other couples who were repeat guests, which I loved. Last year we went to Grand Palladium in Montego Bay just because it was a bit cheaper. Maybe this year we'll go back.

Glad you enjoyed. It brought back great memories.

Re: Couples Swept Away Jamaica!

It was nice. We went the first week of March so the weather was great. Very clean and the food was just OK. We met lots of Canadians as it was their "holiday". It was a much different type of vacation than Couples was. There were kids (which we definitely don't mind) and lots of pool activities. There wasn't the attention that we got at Couples though.

Great to know! I'm not opposed to checking out a different resort, since Jamaica was amazing, but I really loved Couples!
