What can you tell me about IUI?
I'm going to be asking my doctor about starting IUI (she already mentioned we would start off with timed intercourse and clomid/hcg shot). Since that hasn't been working IUI is the next step.
What happens at the appointment? DOes DH need to be there?
Also, if you have GHI and done IUIs how much of it do they cover?
Thanks!!

Re: What can you tell me about IUI?
I like to call the IUI the turkey baster. It is a fairly simple proceedure and I had my DH there for one of mine the others he just .....in the cup and I took it in with me.....well all the times I took it with me but the first time I made him come since I was nervous about it.
I did mine with Clomid and they didn't work for me. An IUI is just getting the timing right...you still have no clue if the swimmers met the egg or what the issue is.

Re: What can you tell me about IUI?
I have GHI and the IUI was covered i just had to pay my co pay. Each plan has a certain amount of IUI's the cover.
I did 5 failed IUI then on the last one i got pregnant with triplets, and now i am 4 mths pregnant with twins. We lost one baby.
The IUI itself if pretty simple you lay on your back and the dr inserts something like a straw and the "sample" and then you continue laying down for a few mins then go home and you may feel a little cramping.
Some months i felt cramping others i felt nothing afterwards.
HTH
FM if you have any other questions

Re: What can you tell me about IUI?
We have done 8 of them..
It is a easy procedure..DH donates lol..we do it in the doc office but I think. Some docs let u do it at home then bring it in
Then they do what they call "washing" the sperm, basically they take the best ones..this takes bout 45 min
Then when the sperm is ready u go in the room..doc clamps u open and inserts the catheter..it takes 2 min
Then u lay on ur back for 10 min and u r good to go..we do them 2 days in a row
I have cramped a bit after and even had a little bleeding but u will be fine
As for ghi,I am assuming we have the same..we have unlimited iui and they pay 100 percent..just the copay at the doc
Fm me with any questions!

Re: What can you tell me about IUI?
does anyone know what the maximum time between when DH sample is taken and when it's actually inserted. I had an IUI today and they didn't insert it until a half hour after my scheduled appointment. I'm worried that the "sample" wasn't good by then. :(

Re: What can you tell me about IUI?
I can tell you...........it works!!! <-----------------------------------
DH doesn't have to be there for the actual IUI. My DH would drop off a sample about an hour before I had to be there. When I went in the IUI took less than 5min, I would lay there for anther 10-15min and then I was on my way. Very easy. Doesn't hurt, feels sorta like getting a pap smear. You might have a little cramping after but Advil will make that better. Good luck!
